METAL GEAR SOLID: MASTER COLLECTION Vol. 2 makes Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots playable on modern platforms for the first time, and bundles it with Peace Walker and bonus game Ghost Babel. For Switch 2, Nintendo Life reviewer Ollie Reynolds reported that both main games ran at 60 fps in his experience, although their resolution ceilings differ. That makes the collection an unusually substantial portable Metal Gear package, with a few edition-specific trade-offs to consider.
What’s in Master Collection Vol. 2?
Konami launched the collection on 27 August 2026 for Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. Its three games span distinct eras and formats:
- Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots: The 2008 PlayStation 3 game, enhanced visually for this collection. Konami describes this release as the first time MGS4 has been available on modern platforms.
- Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker: The HD Collection version, built around Big Boss’s private army, base-building, and tactical espionage missions.
- Metal Gear: Ghost Babel: A bonus game presented in a separate app, rather than inside the two main games.
The package also includes a Metal Gear Solid 4 Database, a screenplay book and master book for each main game, and Metal Gear Solid: Digital Soundtrack Vol.2. Konami’s official product details are at Konami’s Master Collection Vol. 2 page.
How do the games perform on Switch 2?
In Nintendo Life’s North American review, published 1 September 2026, Ollie Reynolds reported that the Switch 2 versions of both main games ran at a solid 60 fps, with no frame-rate dip noticed during his play. Those are one reviewer’s observations, not independent lab measurements or a guarantee for every play session.

| Game | Docked resolution reported | Handheld resolution reported | Frame rate reported |
|---|---|---|---|
| Metal Gear Solid 4 | Up to 4K | 1080p | 60 fps in Reynolds’s experience |
| Peace Walker | 1080p | 720p | 60 fps in Reynolds’s experience |
Reynolds praised the performance overall but noted that Peace Walker has a lower resolution ceiling than MGS4. He also felt the short-mission structure of Peace Walker suits handheld play. Nintendo Life gave the collection 9/10; that score and those judgments reflect that review, not a broader critical consensus. Read Nintendo Life’s Switch 2 review.
What are the buying trade-offs?
Why the collection stands out
MGS4 is the central draw for anyone who missed its original PS3 release or wants it on a modern system. Pairing it with Peace Walker makes this more than a single-game port, while Ghost Babel and the reference, screenplay, master-book, and soundtrack materials add useful historical extras. The Switch 2 version also lets you take the games on the go, and Reynolds’s review specifically found handheld play a natural fit for Peace Walker’s shorter missions.

What to weigh before buying
- Different visual targets: In Reynolds’s review, Peace Walker tops out at lower reported resolutions than MGS4, particularly in handheld mode.
- Separate app for the bonus game: Ghost Babel is not integrated into the main collection app, a choice Reynolds flagged.
- Separate digital purchases are available: Konami says MGS4 and Peace Walker can also be bought as individual digital titles. Compare those options with the local collection price and whether you want the bonus game and archive materials.
Nintendo’s US product page lists the Switch 2 collection at a regular price of $49.99. That is a US listing, not a global price, and prices can change; check Nintendo’s US product page for the current figure in that market.
Can you play Peace Walker online?
Yes. Konami says the HD Collection version of Peace Walker supports online play for up to six players. It is the only game in this collection with online play, and crossplay is not supported. Konami’s announcement does not guarantee how long online services will remain available.

Who should buy the Switch 2 edition?
It is the strongest fit for Switch 2 owners who want MGS4 on a current platform, value portability, or want the three-game package and its archive materials together. The reported 60 fps performance is encouraging, while the lower resolution reported for Peace Walker is the main technical compromise. If you only want one of the two main games, compare Konami’s separate digital purchase options against the collection before deciding.
