To create a coupon in a WordPress store, enable coupons in WooCommerce > Settings > General, then go to Marketing > Coupons to add and configure one. In a Dokan marketplace, vendors create coupons from their vendor dashboard, while marketplace administrators can create offers for selected vendors or products. The right workflow depends on who controls the offer—and, in a marketplace, who funds the discount.
Choose the right coupon workflow
WooCommerce coupons are managed by the store in WordPress admin. Dokan adds separate workflows for vendor-created coupons and administrator-managed marketplace coupons.

For standard discounts, WooCommerce core provides percentage, fixed-cart, and fixed-product coupon types. Advanced workflows such as bulk code generation, automatic application, and shareable coupon links are documented for the optional Smart Coupons extension.
Create a standard WooCommerce coupon
- Enable coupon use. In the WordPress dashboard, go to WooCommerce > Settings > General, enable coupon codes, and save your changes. Coupon use must be enabled before coupons can be used. See the WooCommerce coupon management guide.
- Open the coupon editor. Go to Marketing > Coupons and select Add new coupon.
- Set the code. Enter a code or use the generate-code control. WooCommerce coupon codes are not case-sensitive. Customers enter the code in the cart or at checkout.
- Configure the offer. Select a discount type—percentage, fixed cart, or fixed product—and enter its amount. Set the usage restrictions and limits needed for the promotion. Do not assume advanced features are included in core WooCommerce; check the available settings and extensions for your specific workflow.
- Publish or schedule it. Publish the coupon when it should become available. WooCommerce also documents scheduling availability through the Publish settings.
- Tell customers where to redeem it. Core WooCommerce does not automatically apply a coupon code. Customers need to enter it from the cart or checkout.
Let a Dokan vendor create a coupon
This route is for a vendor creating an offer for their own store, rather than a marketplace-wide promotion controlled by the administrator.

- In WordPress admin, confirm coupon codes are enabled under WooCommerce > Settings > General, then save.
- In the vendor dashboard, open Coupons and choose Add New Coupon.

Create a coupon for vendors as a Dokan administrator
A marketplace administrator can create a coupon from WP-Admin > Marketing > Coupons. Dokan adds Vendor Limits controls so the administrator can apply the coupon to all vendors, select particular vendors or products, or exclude them. The available controls and wording may vary with the installed plugin version; Dokan’s administrator coupon guide describes the workflow.
Decide who pays for the discount
Before publishing, review the coupon’s deduction settings and any vendor notification or store-page display options. The deduction method can affect marketplace commission and vendor earnings. Dokan’s administrator guide gives an example in which a shortfall can flow to vendor earnings when the administrator’s deduction exceeds the available commission, so do not treat a marketplace coupon as financially neutral without checking your configuration.

Dokan’s vendor coupon documentation states: “Beginning with Dokan 4.0 the coupon engine has been rebuilt so that marketplace-wide or product-level discounts created by the Admin never eat into a vendor’s expected earnings.” That statement is explicitly qualified as beginning with Dokan 4.0. Read it alongside the administrator guide’s deduction examples and your marketplace’s configured rules rather than treating it as a universal guarantee across every setup.
Check multi-vendor cart behavior
Dokan’s administrator coupon guide says fixed-cart discounts do not apply across multiple vendors. If shoppers can place items from more than one vendor in a cart, verify that the coupon type and intended coverage fit that checkout behavior before advertising the offer.

When an extension is useful
For ordinary coupons, start with WooCommerce core. Consider Smart Coupons only if you need capabilities beyond the standard workflow, such as bulk code generation, auto-apply coupons, or shareable coupon links. Its documentation says bulk-generated codes can be added to the store, exported to CSV, or emailed to recipients.
