Panasas announced VDURA as its new brand identity on May 7, 2024. The company presented the change as more than a new name: it signaled a shift toward a software-focused business with a subscription model, building on Panasas’s parallel NAS technology for AI and high-performance computing (HPC) data infrastructure. The announcement confirms the new identity, but the available sources do not establish what the logo looks like.
Why did Panasas become VDURA?
In its May 7, 2024 launch announcement, VDURA described the rebrand as part of a move from a hardware-centered business toward software and a software-subscription model. The company said it intended to extend its parallel NAS foundation into data infrastructure for AI and HPC workloads, including on-premises, hybrid, and native-cloud environments. Those are the company’s stated direction and positioning; the announcement does not establish that every deployment mode or planned partnership was already available. HPCwire’s launch announcement and StorageReview’s May 9, 2024 coverage both describe the shift toward software subscriptions.
In a 2025 interview with HPCwire, VDURA CEO and President Ken Claffey called the change “more than just a rebrand” and said it marked “a fundamental evolution in how we deliver value to our customers.” The interview links the name to the ideas of “velocity” and “durability,” as well as a software-first, scalable infrastructure direction. What changed—and what did not?
The brand and business positioning changed; the launch announcement tied the new model to Panasas’s parallel NAS technology. VDURA’s 2025 V11 white paper describes the platform as an evolution of Panasas architecture, combining parallel file-system performance with a cost-efficient object store in one architecture. VDURA’s March 2025 product brief lists TLC and QLC SSDs, along with CMR and SMR hard disk drives, among the storage media in its platform architecture. What is known about the new logo?
The launch coverage confirms VDURA as Panasas’s new brand identity, but the cited materials do not reliably describe the logo’s visual elements, colors, typography, or design rationale. The name and identity announcement alone are not enough to support a more detailed description.

What should organizations evaluate?
The rebrand is not evidence that VDURA outperforms another storage platform. Organizations assessing whether the platform fits should compare their own requirements against the product’s documented capabilities, including:
- Workload: whether the system meets the needs of the organization’s AI or HPC applications.
- Deployment: whether the required on-premises, hybrid, or cloud arrangement is available and supported for the intended use.
- Storage media: which tiers and specific drive models are supported for the proposed configuration.
- Operational fit: performance, resilience, management requirements, and the software-subscription model.
VDURA’s materials describe its architecture and positioning, but model-level compatibility and suitability require confirmation for the specific deployment.
