Install the free Just Dance Controller app, open a compatible Just Dance game, then follow the prompts on the game screen to connect your phone. You can hold the phone and use it as a motion controller, or use Camera Controller Mode to let the phone camera track your full-body movements hands-free. Camera scoring is for solo play.
Choose how you want to use your phone
“Phone controller” can mean two different things. In handheld mode, you hold the phone while you dance; in Camera Controller Mode, you place the phone where its camera can see you and dance without holding it. Ubisoft describes Camera Controller Mode as full-body movement tracking. It is not the same as using the phone as a handheld motion controller.
- Handheld phone: Use the phone as a motion controller while holding it.
- Camera Controller Mode: Use the phone camera for hands-free scoring. This mode is solo-only.
For Just Dance 2026 Edition, Ubisoft says the Controller App offers both handheld motion-controller and camera-controller options. On Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, the console’s controllers are also a scoring option. Ubisoft has not published comparative latency, accuracy, or independent test results for these methods.
Check phone and song compatibility
Ubisoft lists the minimum operating systems as iOS 14.4 or later and Android 9 or later. The app is free, and Ubisoft says no additional accessories are required for Camera Controller Mode (Ubisoft’s Just Dance 2026 announcement).

Every choreography from Just Dance 2025 Edition and Just Dance 2026 Edition is compatible with Camera Controller Mode, according to Ubisoft. Songs from Just Dance+ or earlier editions may also work, but compatibility is not guaranteed for every song. Check the song’s camera-compatibility indicator where available.
Set up the phone controller
- Install the app. Download the Just Dance Controller app on a phone that meets the iOS or Android minimum requirements above. Ubisoft’s October 6, 2025 patch notes say the mobile companion app was renamed Just Dance Controller (Just Dance 2026 Edition patch notes).
- Open the game and follow its connection prompts. Use the on-screen instructions to connect the app or select the phone-controller mode. Ubisoft’s public material confirms the app and modes but does not specify a universal tap-by-tap pairing sequence, so the exact screens may depend on the game and platform.
- Choose the control method. Select handheld phone control if you plan to hold the phone. For hands-free play, choose Camera Controller Mode.
- Position the phone for camera play. Place it so the camera can see your body as you dance. Ubisoft confirms full-body tracking but does not prescribe a particular stand, distance, or camera placement.
- Select a compatible song and start dancing. For camera scoring, play solo and use a song marked as compatible where that indicator is available.
Play with other people
Camera Controller Mode is limited to solo play, so do not expect multiple dancers to be camera-scored together. For local multiplayer, choose a supported controller method instead. Ubisoft says local multiplayer can support up to six players, depending on the mode and platform (Ubisoft’s feature announcement; patch notes). The available player count depends on the selected mode and platform.

What Ubisoft says about camera tracking
Ubisoft describes Camera Controller Mode as out of beta and stable for regular use in Just Dance 2026 Edition. Its development article reports that the team recorded 9,000 movements, used 6,000 for training and 3,000 for testing, and achieved an 80% success rate on its data testing. Ubisoft says Score Level Designers manually balanced and adjusted the remaining 20%. These are Ubisoft-reported internal development figures, not independent measurements of consumer accuracy (Ubisoft’s Camera Controller Mode article).
