Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsA website can work exactly as designed and still feel frustrating if its main content takes too long to appear, its controls respond slowly, or the page shifts while someone is reading. Performance is part of usability: it affects how easily people can complete tasks, not just whether the features technically function.
Why does web performance matter if a website works perfectly?
Functional correctness answers whether a feature works. Performance answers whether it works at a pace and with a degree of stability that feels usable. A search box may return the right results, for example, but delayed feedback makes searching feel sluggish. A checkout may be correct, but a slow response or a moving button can make it harder to finish.
These delays and unexpected movements add friction to reading, searching, and other tasks. Performance is therefore an experience issue, not merely a technical score. Google Search Central describes Core Web Vitals as metrics for “real-world user experience for loading performance, interactivity, and visual stability of the page.”
What do Core Web Vitals measure?
Google’s current guidance uses three Core Web Vitals to represent loading, responsiveness, and visual stability. The thresholds below are experience targets; meeting them does not guarantee a commercial result.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Metric | What it tells you | Good experience target |
|---|---|---|
| Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) | How long it takes for the largest content element to become visible—a useful proxy for when the main content seems to have loaded. | 2.5 seconds or less |
| Interaction to Next Paint (INP) | How responsive the page is across a user’s interactions. | Below 200 milliseconds |
| Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) | How much unexpected movement page content experiences. | Below 0.1 |
These thresholds come from Google Search Central’s current documentation and can change. A number is useful for identifying a performance concern, but it does not by itself explain what a visitor experienced or why.
Do Core Web Vitals affect Google rankings?
Yes. Google says Core Web Vitals are used by its ranking systems and recommends meeting the good thresholds. But passing a Core Web Vitals assessment does not guarantee a top ranking. Google considers the broader page experience and can still show relevant content when its experience is subpar.

Performance can contribute to search success, particularly when competing pages are similarly useful, but it is not a shortcut around relevance or a promise of a ranking lift. A strong speed score alone cannot establish that a page will rank well.
How do I know if my website is slow?
Use both real-user field data and page-level diagnostics. They answer different questions: field data reflects reported visits across URL groups, while a page test examines a particular URL under its test conditions. Neither is a complete account of every visitor’s experience.

- PageSpeed Insights: test representative URLs to inspect user-centric metrics and diagnostic opportunities for those pages.
- Search Console’s Core Web Vitals report: review real-world usage data summarized across groups of similar URLs. A page may be absent if there is not enough reporting data.
- Chrome DevTools: investigate runtime behavior, network activity, and page-load performance when you need to trace a bottleneck.
Start with the affected metric and evidence, not a headline score. A loading issue, a delayed interaction, and a layout shift have different causes, so the relevant diagnostic matters.
What should I investigate first?
- Choose representative pages. Run PageSpeed Insights on pages that reflect important tasks and content, rather than relying on a single homepage result.
- Check the field-data pattern. In Search Console, inspect the Core Web Vitals report and its URL groups to see whether real-world data indicates a broader issue. Treat missing pages as unknown, not automatically healthy.
- Identify the kind of friction. Determine whether the evidence points to loading time (LCP), responsiveness (INP), or unexpected movement (CLS).
- Use diagnostics to investigate. Follow PageSpeed Insights opportunities or inspect runtime, network, and loading activity in Chrome DevTools to locate a likely bottleneck.
- Recheck with both perspectives. Use page-level diagnostics to assess a change and field data to understand how reported real-world experiences look over time.
There is no single universal measure that replaces this process: real-user data and controlled single-page tests are complementary. Prioritize the friction people encounter, then use the appropriate evidence to investigate it.

Is there a universal business cost for a slow website?
No universal conversion-loss figure is established here. A claim such as “every extra second costs a fixed percentage” needs a clearly identified study, population, date, device or geography, and method; without that context, it should not be treated as a general rule. The practical case is clearer: delays, sluggish controls, and layout jumps make common tasks harder and less pleasant.
