Angular’s NG0500 means the DOM in the browser does not match the structure Angular expects from server-side rendering during hydration. Find where the trees diverge—often a direct DOM change, invalid HTML, different server and browser rendering, or altered HTML delivery—and correct that cause. Use ngSkipHydration only as a temporary workaround for a component you cannot yet make hydration-compatible.
What NG0500 means
With hydration, Angular reuses the DOM created by server-side rendering and matches it to the client application’s view. NG0500 appears when Angular encounters a different node structure than it expects. Hydration depends on the browser receiving the same server-rendered structure, including Angular’s comment nodes and whitespace. Angular’s Hydration guide states: “The HTML produced by the server side rendering operation must not be altered between the server and the client.”
The error often points to a particular location in the DOM. Treat that location as a lead: inspect the relevant component and its surrounding markup rather than disabling hydration across the app.
Common causes of a node mismatch
Code or libraries mutate the DOM
Code that inserts, removes, moves, or replaces nodes outside Angular’s rendering can leave the browser DOM different from Angular’s expected tree. This includes native DOM methods such as insertBefore and appendChild, as well as assignments to innerHTML or outerHTML. In Angular’s NG0500 example, a new paragraph is inserted before an element the template expects, so the first child no longer matches.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Third-party libraries that manipulate markup can cause the same problem. Prefer Angular templates and its declarative rendering model for changes to the view. Renderer2 is not a blanket fix for structural DOM manipulation: Angular’s DOM API guide says its APIs do not support DOM manipulation in server-side rendering or build-time prerendering contexts.
Invalid HTML is repaired by the browser
The browser may normalize invalid nesting into a tree different from the one Angular rendered. Examples include placing a <div> inside a <p>, nesting one <a> inside another, or omitting a table body. Browsers can insert a <tbody> into a table automatically; include it explicitly in the template.

Server and browser render different initial content
If the server and client take different rendering paths, they may produce different trees. For example, using a browser-platform condition to show a different branch during initial client rendering can cause a mismatch. Keep the initial server and browser output consistent, including the data used to render it.
HTML changes after server rendering
A CDN optimization, custom HTML transformation, or script may change the server-rendered document before Angular hydrates it. Stripping Angular-generated comments or whitespace can disrupt node matching, and scripts that modify markup before hydration can create further differences. Angular documents altered server HTML separately as NG0507.

How to find and fix the mismatch
- Read the browser console error. Note the reported DOM location and inspect that subtree and its owning component.
- Look for code that changes nodes. Search the component and its lifecycle code for
document, querySelector, appendChild, insertBefore, node removal or movement, innerHTML, andouterHTML. Replace structural mutations with Angular template constructs or APIs where feasible. - Check the markup. Correct invalid nesting and include explicit elements such as
<tbody>where needed. - Compare initial server and client rendering. Make sure both sides render the same structure and use consistent initial data. Avoid client-only conditions that change the initial tree.
- For production-only failures, inspect the HTML the browser actually receives. Compare it with the server-rendered output. Preserve Angular comments and whitespace, and disable CDN features or custom transformations that remove or rewrite them.
- Use Angular DevTools. Its hydration information can help inspect hydration status and highlight a component associated with a mismatch.
- Re-test the affected route. Confirm the console error is gone and the delivered HTML remains intact in the environment where the issue occurred.
When to use ngSkipHydration
ngSkipHydration is a workaround for a component that cannot yet be made hydration-compatible, such as one dependent on a DOM-mutating library. Put it on the component’s host node. Angular skips hydration for that component and all its descendants, destroying and re-rendering that subtree instead of reusing its server-rendered DOM. This gives up hydration’s reuse benefits for that part of the page.
It is valid on a component host, not an arbitrary child element; using it elsewhere causes an error. Putting it on the root application component effectively skips hydration for the whole app. Treat it as a temporary measure and remove it once the underlying mismatch is fixed. See Angular’s NG0500 reference and Hydration guide for the directive’s constraints.
