To send ETH, enter the recipient’s address and amount, review both carefully, choose the fee option shown in MEW, and confirm. Ethereum network fees are paid in ETH, and a transaction cannot be undone after it is included in a block.
Before you start: Know what you can share
Your public wallet address is the information someone needs to send you ETH. You can share that address or its QR code. Your recovery phrase and private key are different: they control access to your wallet and must remain secret. MEW warns that requests for those secrets are scams. See MEW’s wallet security guidance.
MEW describes its wallets as self-custodial: you control the wallet’s secret recovery information, and MEW says it cannot restore access if you lose it. Keep that information backed up and stored securely, not in an internet-connected service or device. MEW’s security guidance explains the risks.
How to receive ETH with MEW Mobile for iOS
- Open MEW Mobile and select the account you want to receive ETH into.
- Tap Deposit. The app displays the account’s public address and QR code.
- Copy or share the address, or show the QR code to the sender. The sender needs only your public address to make the transfer—not your recovery phrase or private key.
- After the sender completes the transfer, check the account’s asset list and transaction history. MEW’s guide also points to ethVM to verify the transaction.

How to send ETH with MEW Mobile for iOS
- Open MEW Mobile and select the account that holds the ETH.
- Tap Send.
- Enter the recipient’s address or scan their QR code. Check the address carefully; a mistaken transfer may not be recoverable.
- Select ETH and enter the amount.
- Choose one of the transaction speed or fee options shown in the app. Review the transaction details, especially the destination address, amount, and fee, before proceeding.
- Authenticate as prompted and wait for the app to process the transaction.
- Check transaction history in MEW or look up the transaction on ethVM to see its status.
MEW warns that Ethereum transactions are final once processed; check the destination and amount before confirming. For the current iOS walkthrough, see MEW’s send-and-receive guide.
Why a transfer needs ETH for gas
Ethereum charges a network fee, called gas, for transactions. The fee is paid in ETH. Sending ETH requires gas, and so can sending tokens or interacting with a smart contract. MEW says it does not set or collect this network fee; the amount can vary, so use the fee quote shown for your transaction rather than relying on a fixed figure. If the wallet does not have enough ETH to cover the transaction and its fee, MEW may show an insufficient-funds or not-enough-ETH error. See MEW’s not-enough-ETH troubleshooting guide.

MEW says it imposes no minimum transfer amount or daily transaction limit for transfers between self-custody wallets. That does not mean every service has no limits: an exchange, smart contract, or other service may set its own requirements, and you still need enough ETH for gas. What to do if a transaction fails or stays pending
If a transaction fails
A failed transaction does not necessarily mean ETH reached the intended recipient. However, it can still incur a fee: gas pays for network computation, and computation may already have occurred before the transaction failed. MEW explains this in its failed-transaction article, which points to Etherscan for inspecting transaction details.

If a transaction is pending
Do not assume you can cancel a transaction after sending it. MEW says a transaction that has been mined and included in a block cannot be canceled or replaced. Its cancel-and-replace instructions are intended for expert users, are not guaranteed to work, and may result in additional stuck transactions. For a pending transfer, consult MEW’s current cancel-or-replace instructions before taking action; avoid changing nonce or gas settings unless you understand the consequences.

MEW advises using private-key, keystore, or mnemonic access offline for security. Its wallet-creation guide recommends considering a hardware wallet such as Trezor or Ledger for larger long-term holdings; a hardware wallet is optional and not required for a basic ETH transfer. If using Ledger with MEW, never enter the hardware wallet’s recovery phrase into an online wallet; see MEW’s Ledger instructions. Check compatibility for your specific device and MEW product: MEW says BitBox02 is no longer supported by the current Portfolio version, though it documents a legacy version (BitBox02 support details).
