Use Angular Elements when you want an Angular component to behave like a reusable browser custom element: create a constructor with createCustomElement(), register it with customElements.define(), then communicate through HTML attributes or properties and DOM events.
What Angular Elements does
Angular Elements packages Angular components as custom elements, also called Web Components: browser-defined HTML elements that can be used without making the consuming page an Angular application. Angular’s @angular/elements package bridges the component and Angular’s change detection with the browser’s custom-element API. The browser’s CustomElementRegistry maps a tag name to its constructor.
The official Angular Elements guide describes the result as “Angular components packaged as custom elements (also called Web Components), a web standard for defining new HTML elements in a framework-agnostic way.”
Create and register a custom element
Install @angular/elements using the package manager and dependency workflow already used by your Angular project. Import createCustomElement, pass it the component and an injector, and register the returned constructor with the browser.

createCustomElementfrom@angular/elements. - Build the constructor: call
createCustomElement(YourComponent, { injector }), using the injector available in the Angular setup where you register the element. - Register a distinct tag: call
customElements.define('my-widget', YourElementConstructor). - Use the tag: add
<my-widget></my-widget>to the document. Set inputs through attributes or properties and listen for output events as needed.
The API reference marks createCustomElement() stable. It returns an NgElementConstructor derived from the component and configuration; the configuration’s injector is the initial injector used by default for element instances.
Do not reuse the Angular component selector as the custom tag
Choose a separate tag name for the custom element rather than reusing the component’s Angular selector. Angular warns that using the same selector can cause both a normal Angular component instance and a custom-element instance to be created for the same DOM element.

Pass inputs and receive outputs
Angular Elements maps component inputs to custom-element attributes and properties, and component outputs to browser Custom Events. This lets a non-Angular page interact with the element through familiar DOM APIs.
Inputs: attributes and properties
Custom-element attribute names do not preserve case distinctions, so Angular converts input names to lowercase dash-case. An input aliased as myInputProp, for example, is exposed as my-input-prop. Set an attribute in markup when a string-valued attribute is appropriate, or set the corresponding element property from JavaScript when you need to pass a property value directly.

Outputs: DOM Custom Events
An output becomes an HTML Custom Event. Its event name is the output name or its alias, and its emitted value is available in event.detail. A standard listener can handle it:

Type the element in TypeScript
DOM APIs generally do not infer the type of an arbitrary custom tag. Angular documents two ways to add that information: cast an element to NgElement & WithProperties<...>, or augment HTMLElementTagNameMap so DOM methods infer the custom element’s type for its registered tag. Use a custom element in an Angular template
Angular’s template checker reports unknown elements by default. If an Angular template includes a custom tag, declare CUSTOM_ELEMENTS_SCHEMA in the relevant schema metadata. For a standalone component, Angular documents the schemas property in component metadata; the schema also applies to NgModule-based configuration.

CUSTOM_ELEMENTS_SCHEMA allows non-Angular dash-case elements and dash-case properties. Angular also provides NO_ERRORS_SCHEMA, which permits any element and property. It is broader, so it is not an interchangeable, narrowly scoped substitute when the intent is specifically to allow custom elements. Angular Elements or dynamic component creation?
Choose based on the interface the host needs. Angular Elements is designed for a registered, reusable DOM tag with attributes, properties, and events. Programmatic createComponent() is useful when an Angular application wants to create and manage a component instance directly rather than expose a browser custom element.

With dynamic creation, the documented workflow includes supplying an EnvironmentInjector, attaching the host view to ApplicationRef so it participates in change detection, setting inputs, handling outputs, and detaching or cleaning up the view.
