A phone’s chip still matters because it determines which AI workloads the device can run, how quickly it can run them, and whether supported work can stay on the device. But an NPU label or a peak TOPS figure alone cannot tell you how useful a phone’s AI features will be: software support, memory, the model, and local-versus-cloud processing matter too.
What the chip does in an AI phone
A system-on-chip combines several kinds of computing hardware. The CPU handles general-purpose application and system tasks; the GPU is built for parallel work such as graphics and can also accelerate some AI operations; and the neural processing unit (NPU) is specialized for supported neural-network operations. These components complement one another rather than replace one another.
Qualcomm describes this as a heterogeneous architecture: CPU, GPU, and NPU each contribute strengths to different task domains. The software and system determine how a workload is divided. An NPU is therefore not a universal measure of a phone’s overall speed or capability.
Qualcomm’s NPU explainer describes the NPU as an accelerator for AI-centric operations, while its Snapdragon AI documentation covers on-device AI capabilities.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
When an NPU makes a practical difference
An NPU can accelerate supported AI inference on the device. When an app and model use it, that may help a feature respond locally without sending every input to a remote service. Local execution can also be useful when a network connection is unavailable.
Those benefits are conditional, not automatic. The feature must support on-device execution, the model must be compatible with the device and its software, and the device must have enough memory for the workload. Some features may use cloud processing, or combine local and remote steps. The presence of an NPU does not prove that a particular feature works offline or keeps all data private.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Apple’s developer documentation presents Core AI as a framework for running models across the CPU, GPU, and Neural Engine. That illustrates why software support is part of the hardware story: an accelerator can only help when the operating system, framework, app, and model can use it.
Why TOPS is not a phone-buying verdict
TOPS means trillions of operations per second. It is a peak throughput specification, not a direct measure of how quickly a particular app responds, how good its results are, or how long performance can be sustained in a real device.

Qualcomm’s AI PC page advertises up to 45 TOPS for Snapdragon X Series laptop NPUs and up to 80 TOPS for next-generation models it says are coming in 2026. These are Qualcomm claims about laptop processors, not like-for-like smartphone measurements or independent rankings. Comparing phones by those laptop figures would not establish which phone performs better.
How to compare phones for AI use
Start with the features you actually expect to use, then check the complete device and software path rather than choosing by the NPU headline.

- [360 ° Flexible Rotation Design] Comes with a rotatable lanyard ring that supports 360 ° free rotation, effectively solving the problem of twisted and tangled lanyards
- [Wide compatibility] The ultra-thin 0.02-inch design does not block the charging port at all, and both wired and wireless charging can be used directly without removing the pad. Compatible with most smartphones such as iPhone, compatible with various wristbands, lanyards, crossbody straps, and keychains
- [Durable and Portable Material] Premium rust-resistant stainless steel material with good flexibility, which not only avoids scratching the phone case, but also has excellent anti rust and anti fading performance
- [Multi scenario Practical] Paired with a lanyard or wristband, hands-free use can be achieved. The phone is within reach and not easily dropped, ideal for daily commuting and outdoor activities. Suitable for full coverage phone cases, does not support half coverage phone cases
- [Quality Service] If you find any damage or other issues with the product upon receipt, please contact us immediately. We will handle it quickly
- Supported features: Check which named AI functions and model types the phone and its operating system support.
- Where processing happens: Find out which tasks run on the phone, which require a server, and what happens without connectivity.
- Memory and model capacity: Confirm that the device configuration can accommodate the intended model and workload.
- Real-use behavior: Consider responsiveness, battery impact, and heat during the tasks you care about. Peak specifications alone do not establish sustained performance.
- Data handling: Check what inputs stay on the device and what may be transmitted. An NPU by itself is not a privacy guarantee.
- Whole-phone trade-offs: Battery life, price, camera or graphics needs, and software support may matter more than an AI specification for your particular use.
There is no universal answer for how well every AI feature works across every phone. The available documentation explains architecture and vendor-described capabilities, but does not establish an independent, like-for-like ranking of current smartphones.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. So, should the chip influence your choice?
Yes, when the chip enables a specific supported feature or workload that matters to you. Treat the processor as one part of the decision: verify the feature, its local or cloud requirements, and the phone’s software and memory support. If a comparison offers only an NPU name or a TOPS number, it does not provide enough information to predict your experience.
