Angular offers two main ways to render a component dynamically: use NgComponentOutlet in a template, or create it from TypeScript with ViewContainerRef. Choose a view container for content that belongs at a specific location in the current Angular view. Use standalone createComponent when you need to control the component’s host placement yourself. For common conditional or trigger-based lazy loading, consider @defer before building a manual loading flow.

Choose the rendering approach that fits

What you need Start with Why
Select a component in a template based on state NgComponentOutlet It is Angular’s template-oriented directive for rendering a component selected at runtime. Angular’s programmatic rendering guide covers this approach.
Insert a component into the current Angular view ViewContainerRef.createComponent It inserts the component’s host view into that view container, appending by default. See the guide and ViewContainerRef API.
Place a component host at a caller-chosen DOM location, such as document.body Standalone createComponent It gives you a ComponentRef without inserting the component into an existing view or DOM location. You control host placement and attach its view to ApplicationRef. See the guide and createComponent API.
Load a component only after a configured trigger Consider @defer Angular recommends considering @defer for common lazy-loading use cases. If it does not fit, dynamically import the component and render it through an outlet or view container. See the guide.

Render a component in a template with NgComponentOutlet

Use NgComponentOutlet when the template should choose which component to display according to application state. This keeps the rendering decision in the template rather than requiring you to create and position a host element manually. It is a good starting point when the component belongs naturally at the location where the directive appears.

If the main requirement is to defer loading until a condition or trigger is met, first check whether Angular’s @defer block covers the desired behavior. A dynamic import paired with an outlet remains an option when the use case needs runtime component selection that @defer does not address.

Insert a component into an existing view with ViewContainerRef

Use ViewContainerRef.createComponent when the new component should be part of an existing Angular view at a known insertion point. Angular places the new component’s host view in the container’s hierarchy; by default, creation appends it to the container. The API also accepts an optional insertion index when ordering matters.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

The view-container API supports more than creation. Use insert or move to position an existing view, detach to remove a view without destroying it, remove to remove and destroy one, or clear to remove all views from the container. These operations are useful for dynamic interfaces that reorder or replace their contents.

Creation options can include an injector or environment injector, projected nodes, directives, bindings, and an error callback. Angular documents creation-time inputBinding(), outputBinding(), and twoWayBinding(), as well as applying host directives during creation. These let you establish component connections as it is created rather than wiring everything afterward. Consult the ViewContainerRef API for the available options.

Use standalone createComponent when you control host placement

Standalone createComponent is for cases where a component must be rendered outside the current view-container hierarchy—for example, when your code needs to put its host element at a chosen DOM location. It returns a ComponentRef; it does not automatically insert the component into an existing view or place its host element in the DOM.

  1. Create the component: call createComponent with the component type and a required EnvironmentInjector. You can also provide a host element, element injector, projected nodes, directives, bindings, or an error callback.
  2. Place its host: use the returned reference’s host element where the interface requires it, such as appending it to a chosen DOM node.
  3. Attach the view: attach componentRef.hostView to ApplicationRef so the view participates in application change detection. Angular’s example also invokes change detection.
  4. Manage its lifetime: when the component is no longer needed, detach its view from the application and destroy the component reference. Ensure your cleanup follows the attachment and placement you performed.

This approach gives you placement control, but also makes you responsible for surrounding infrastructure: attaching the host view, wiring inputs and outputs, handling placement, and cleaning up. Angular’s custom elements guide calls out this responsibility for runtime rendering with createComponent.

Handle errors and distinguish components from template fragments

The onError callback on the creation APIs covers errors during rendering or change detection. It does not catch errors thrown synchronously while the component is being constructed, so synchronous construction failures need to be handled separately where the component is created. The programmatic rendering guide documents this boundary.

If the content to insert is a template fragment rather than a component, use a TemplateRef with ViewContainerRef.createEmbeddedView. Embedded-view creation is distinct from dynamically creating a component; see the ViewContainerRef API.

Check hydration when projecting existing DOM nodes

Angular’s NG0503 error reference identifies unsupported projection of DOM nodes during hydration and connects the issue to nodes supplied through ViewContainerRef.createComponent or standalone createComponent. If your application projects existing DOM nodes while hydrating, consult the NG0503 guidance for the specific projection pattern. This limitation should not be generalized to every use of dynamic component rendering.
