It used XMRig, named Dwarfpool’s US endpoint as its default, and offered Docker environment variables for pool and worker settings. The old pool address and image compatibility with today’s Monero mining are unconfirmed, so its commands should not be treated as ready-to-run instructions.
What the “new” Dwarfpool Docker image refers to
The title most plausibly points to Patrick Kennedy’s ServeTheHome article, “Monero Mining on Servers with Docker the Next Generation”, published October 15, 2017. Kennedy described a Dockerized XMRig CPU miner intended to improve on earlier images that were tied to particular architectures and pools. The guide called the image a universal CPU image and included default configuration and NUMA-aware deployment examples.
“New” referred to the image at the time of publication; it does not establish that the image is newly released, still maintained, or safe to use now. The guide’s example image name was servethehome/monero_xmrig. The available information does not establish whether it remains published or what miner version it contains.
What the 2017 configuration allowed
The guide said the container accepted these environment variables. Its values are historical examples, not verified current pool settings:

The article’s sample docker run passed pool, port, wallet/worker username, password, thread count, and donation level. Because the historical endpoint, image, and pool rules have not been independently verified, reproducing those settings today could fail or send mining work somewhere unintended. Do not put a wallet address into an unverified image or pool configuration.
Why the old image may not mine Monero today
The guide predates a major change in Monero mining. RandomX activated on Monero on November 30, 2019, after the October 2017 article. The RandomX project documents that activation. A miner image created before the change cannot be assumed to support the current algorithm.

XMRig’s release information identifies version 6.26.0 and RandomX v2 support, but that does not show that the 2017 Docker image contains a compatible XMRig build. See the XMRig releases and verify the actual image source, update history, base image, embedded miner version, and supported algorithm before considering it usable.
What to verify before choosing any Docker miner
Check each of these independently; the 2017 guide does not establish current values or status:

- Image provenance and maintenance: Confirm the publisher, source repository, image registry entry, update history, and build contents. Do not infer safety or maintenance from the old image name.
- Miner and algorithm: Identify the embedded miner version and confirm support for the Monero algorithm in use.
- Pool operation and terms: Confirm the pool hostname and port, TLS availability, fees, payout rules, and current service status from the pool itself.
- Wallet and worker format: Check how the pool expects the wallet address, worker ID, and password to be supplied.
- Hardware behavior: Check CPU architecture, memory and huge-page requirements, and NUMA placement for the host.
- Costs: Measure power use and include local electricity or hosting charges. A successful connection or hashrate alone does not establish profitability.
XMRig’s benchmark documentation describes benchmark modes and notes memory and huge-page considerations. Benchmark results can help characterize a system, but they are not evidence that mining will be profitable.
CPU affinity and the guide’s historical performance figures
Kennedy illustrated Docker’s --cpuset-cpus option to constrain which host CPUs a container could use, including assigning threads with NUMA placement in mind. This is useful background on CPU affinity, but the old example does not establish a safe current command for a particular host. Docker options, kernel behavior, permissions, and the miner’s needs should be checked against the current system and image.

The guide’s performance figures are the author’s observations from 2017, not current benchmarks or forecasts:

These historical observations do not establish present-day performance on different hardware, mining revenue, or a reason to buy a server. The article also included a first-person claim about offsetting 20%–30% of data-center costs for part of the year; that is not a general or current expectation.

Bottom line on using the Dwarfpool image
The 2017 guide is useful for understanding how its Docker image exposed pool, wallet, thread, donation, and CPU-affinity settings. It is not enough to establish that the image or Dwarfpool endpoint works now, or that the image supports RandomX. Treat its commands and performance figures as historical until the image, miner version, pool service, and current configuration have each been verified.
