Outlook for Windows already has a cloud-roaming option for supported settings; it is not a new feature launching this month. The “this month” in the original headline referred to a rollout forecast made in June 2020. Today, eligible users can enable the option in classic Outlook and sync supported preferences across installations signed in to the same account.
What Outlook cloud roaming does
Cloud roaming saves supported Outlook preferences with an eligible account so they can follow you to other Outlook for Windows installations signed in to that account. Microsoft describes the feature as automatically roaming settings across devices that use Outlook for Windows. See Microsoft’s Outlook roaming options and information about cloud-stored settings.
The original “this month” claim came from a June 2, 2020 report by Brad Sams at Petri. It said rollout would begin with Microsoft 365 Monthly Channel and aimed to finish by late June 2020. That was a historical rollout target, not a current October 2026 launch announcement. Read the 2020 report.
How to sync Outlook settings to another computer
In classic Outlook for Windows, use this setting:
- Open File > Options > General.
- Select Store my Outlook settings in the cloud.
- Select OK.
To stop roaming, clear the same checkbox and select OK. Microsoft says that after you disable it, changes to Outlook options apply only on that local device. The setting may not appear for every account or managed installation.

Which Outlook settings roam—and which do not
Microsoft lists these categories as supported for roaming:

Some settings depend on the computer, local files, or Office as a whole rather than the Outlook account. Microsoft gives Windows time zone, local fonts, and the Ribbon as examples of settings that generally do not roam. It also identifies account-associated settings such as Add online meeting to all meetings, Focused Inbox, and Automatic Replies. The exact scope depends on the setting; cloud roaming does not mean every Outlook or Office preference transfers.
When settings sync and how conflicts are handled
Microsoft says Outlook synchronizes settings when it starts and then hourly, rather than continuously in real time. A local registry cache is used at HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOfficeOutlookSettingsData; this is a cache location, not the normal way to configure roaming.

For a setting changed on more than one installation, Microsoft says the latest change uploaded to the cloud takes precedence and then syncs to other eligible clients. A change whose upload was delayed by connectivity can therefore become the cloud version later. Signing in to Office with a different account can also apply a different set of roamed settings.
Why settings might not appear on another PC
If a preference did not move, check the relevant conditions rather than assuming all settings are covered:

- Check the setting’s scope. Ribbon customization, Quick Access Toolbar choices, add-ins, language, Trust Center settings, and computer- or file-dependent options are not listed as roaming settings.
- Confirm the account and mailbox qualify. Microsoft’s support information documents availability for eligible Microsoft 365 accounts with cloud mailboxes on listed update channels and for Outlook.com users. It identifies version 2108 for the listed Microsoft 365 channels. This is documented eligibility, not a guarantee for every tenant, account, version, or device.
- Allow for the sync schedule. Settings sync at Outlook startup and hourly afterward, so a change may not show immediately.
- Check whether an administrator disabled roaming. Organizations can use the “Disable roaming settings in Outlook” policy, including through the Office Cloud Policy Service.
- Verify the account signed in to Office. A different Office sign-in can have a different set of settings associated with it.
What changes when you use new Outlook
Microsoft’s new Outlook import instructions say settings are imported automatically on first start, along with installation of classic Outlook add-ins where applicable. Importing classic settings requires that Store my Outlook settings in the cloud was selected in classic Outlook. Administrator restrictions can prevent migration or add-in installation. New Outlook and classic Outlook do not have identical feature sets. Microsoft’s feature comparison, last updated September 23, 2026, is the current reference for feature availability; do not assume every classic setting or capability has a direct new Outlook equivalent. Microsoft’s deployment guidance covers controlling new Outlook, including sovereign-cloud contexts, but does not describe cloud settings as a newly launching October 2026 feature.
