What the reported CD revival figures show
T3 reports that U.S. CD sales reached 16.3 million units in the first half of 2026, a 16% year-over-year increase, citing Luminate. T3 also says John Lewis reported CD-player searches were up 96% “since July” in 2026 and that some popular models had sold out. The search figure’s measurement period is not specified more precisely, and both statistics are reported here through T3 rather than independently verified against the underlying data. T3 connects the renewed interest with younger collectors, attributing to Luminate the view that Gen Z and millennials are helping drive it.
