You can get Fernet in Fortnite by buying any edition of Kernel Hearts through the Epic Games Store, or by purchasing the Outfit from the Fortnite Shop if it is currently listed. The Epic Games Store reward is tied to the game purchase; the separate Shop listing is priced at 1,500 V-Bucks. As of October 5, 2026, Epic’s pages give conflicting Shop dates and the Fernet item page says the Outfit is unavailable, so check the live in-game Shop before spending V-Bucks.
Choose between the two official ways to get Fernet
| Route | What you get | Availability and conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Buy Kernel Hearts through the Epic Games Store | Fernet Outfit with any edition of the game | Epic says the reward offer lasts while the game remains for sale on that storefront. Automatic grants begin August 17, 2026 at 1:00 PM ET, and the purchase date does not affect eligibility. |
| Buy Fernet in the Fortnite Shop | The Outfit, listed at 1,500 V-Bucks on Fortnite’s official item page | Epic’s FAQ says the sale begins September 26, 2026 at 8:00 PM ET. The item page marks Fernet unavailable and displays a September 24, 2026 end date, which conflicts with the FAQ. Check the live in-game Shop for the current listing. |
Pick the game-purchase route if you also want Kernel Hearts; it is not a free Outfit because it requires buying the game. If you want only Fernet, the Shop route avoids buying the game, but only works when the Outfit is actually offered there. Epic describes Fernet as “Captain of the M.A.H.O.U unit” and lists selectable styles on its item page.

How to claim Fernet with a Kernel Hearts purchase
- Open the Epic Games Store and locate Kernel Hearts.
- Choose and purchase any edition using the Epic Games account you use for Fortnite. Epic says the purchase date does not change reward eligibility.
- Allow for the automatic grant process. Epic Support says grants begin August 17, 2026 at 1:00 PM ET.
- Launch Fortnite using the same Epic account and check your Locker for the Fernet Outfit.
An eligible Epic Games Store gift purchase grants Fernet to the recipient, not the person buying the gift. If the recipient already owns Fernet, Epic says the recipient gets a one-time 1,500 V-Bucks grant instead.
How to buy Fernet directly in Fortnite
- Open Fortnite and check the current Item Shop for Fernet.
- If it is listed, review the item and its price before confirming. The official Fernet page lists 1,500 V-Bucks, but the live Shop is the place to verify availability and the purchase price.
- Confirm the purchase only if Fernet appears in the Shop and you want to spend the displayed amount.
Epic’s FAQ says the separate Shop offer starts September 26, 2026 at 8:00 PM ET, while the official item page displays September 24, 2026 as an end date and currently marks the Outfit unavailable. Those details do not establish whether Fernet is on sale now; rely on the in-game listing rather than either date alone.

Account, duplicate-ownership, and refund rules
- Already own Fernet: A qualifying Kernel Hearts purchase results in a one-time 1,500 V-Bucks grant instead of a second Outfit, according to Epic.
- Playing on another platform: The Outfit appears on other platforms when you sign in with your Epic account on PC or mobile, or connect your console account to your Epic account.
- Refunding the game: Epic says a refund of the qualifying Kernel Hearts purchase removes Fernet and any 1,500 V-Bucks granted in its place.
Using a Fortnite gift card
A Fortnite gift card can fund V-Bucks or Fortnite account balance for an Outfit purchase, but it does not guarantee Fernet is available in the Shop. Epic says Fortnite gift cards are replacing V-Bucks cards, with rollout and availability varying by region. Its gift-card guidance also notes that platform wallet rules apply; check the card’s regional terms and your platform’s redemption rules before buying. V-Bucks can be used to buy Outfits, but a card cannot bypass the requirement that Fernet be listed for sale.

Quick Recap

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.
