Install YouTube TV on Roku
- From the Roku home screen, open Streaming Channels.
- Select Search channels.
- Search for YouTube TV and select the YouTube TV app in the results.
- Choose the option to download the app.
- Open YouTube TV and follow the prompts displayed in the app.
Make sure you select YouTube TV, not the separate YouTube app. Google notes that “The YouTube TV app is different from the YouTube app.” Google’s Roku installation instructions describe the channel-store steps above. They do not specify a fixed activation-code or sign-in sequence, so follow the current on-screen instructions rather than relying on a particular URL or code flow.
Check membership and location requirements
You need a YouTube TV membership to watch. If you are new to the service, Google’s signup guidance says you’ll be asked for a home ZIP code and may be asked to allow device-location access. That information helps determine local content and networks; it is separate from finding or installing the Roku app. Check the signup page for current pricing and offers, which can change.
Confirm your Roku device is supported
Google lists Roku TVs and multiple Roku player families as supported, including Roku Ultra, Roku Ultra LT, Roku Streaming Stick+, Roku Express, Roku Premiere, Roku 4, Roku 3 models 4200x and 4230x, and Roku 2 model 4210x. The supported-device list can change, so check Google’s current compatibility page if you are checking a specific model.

Google also cautions that selected devices with 512 MB or less of memory may provide a different experience, and some features may be unavailable. If your TV already has Roku built in, use its Roku interface; if you own a supported Roku player, install the app on that device. You do not need to buy another Roku device if your existing hardware is supported.
Troubleshoot Roku playback problems
You see an HDCP error
Google’s Roku troubleshooting guidance says to turn on HDMI Ultra HD Color in the TV settings when YouTube TV reports an HDCP error.

Playback is choppy
Google advises turning off HDR in Roku’s Settings > Display type. The listed display-type options include 4K 30 Hz TV, 4K 60 Hz TV, and 4K HDR 60 Hz; choose an available option that turns HDR off.
You can’t find or install the app
- Search the Roku channel store for the exact name YouTube TV, not only “YouTube.”
- Check Google’s supported-device list to confirm that your Roku model is included.
Google documents the supported models and the normal search-and-download sequence, but does not provide a separate app-store error procedure.
