A first week with AWS is enough to build a useful mental model and try a guided learning resource—not to master cloud computing. Start by understanding on-demand, pay-as-you-go services, learn what a few core service categories do, and check account and pricing terms before launching anything. AWS’s Cloud Essentials Learning Plan is a good official backbone, but the seven-day sequence below is a suggested plan, not an AWS-prescribed schedule.
What should you learn first about AWS?
Begin with the cloud model, not a long list of product names. AWS describes cloud computing as on-demand access to compute, databases, storage, applications, and other IT resources over the internet, with pay-as-you-go pricing. In practice, that means using services provided through AWS rather than first buying and maintaining all the corresponding infrastructure yourself. The exact cost depends on the services and how you use them; pay-as-you-go does not mean every activity is free.
Read AWS Cloud Essentials for an introduction to cloud benefits and terminology. As you go, try to answer three questions: What need does a cloud service meet? What would I have to manage myself? What usage could affect the bill?
A practical first-week learning plan
This is a proposed orientation for a beginner, not an official AWS seven-day curriculum. Move at a pace that lets you understand each concept; AWS does not promise that one week is sufficient for a particular level of skill.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Day 1: Understand the cloud model
Learn what on-demand access and pay-as-you-go mean, and compare cloud services with infrastructure you would buy and maintain locally. Note that convenience does not eliminate decisions about configuration, security, or cost.
Day 2: Map needs to service categories
Think in categories rather than memorizing a catalog: compute for running workloads, storage for keeping data, and databases for organizing and querying it. AWS offers many services and options within those categories; this first pass is about recognizing the kind of problem each category addresses.

Day 3: Follow an official beginner resource
Use AWS’s Cloud Essentials Learning Plan as a self-paced guide. AWS says it covers cloud benefits, core services, pricing, and security. Its Cloud Practitioner Essentials course is listed at 12 hours 45 minutes in AWS’s training catalog accessed in 2026; that is the stated course duration, not a guarantee that every learner can finish it within this week.
Day 4: Explore a guided tutorial
Use the AWS Getting Started hub to find guided tutorials and service documentation. If you open the console, treat it as a way to see how AWS presents a service—not as a reason to launch resources before checking eligibility and possible charges.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsRank #3
- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Day 5: Check account terms and estimate a hypothetical workload
Before creating resources, review the current AWS Free Tier offer and AWS’s documentation on exploring services with Free Tier and choosing an account plan. Confirm which plan applies to your account, which offers and features you are eligible to use, and whether the service and region you have in mind are covered.
Then try the public AWS Pricing Calculator. It can be used without an AWS account. Enter a hypothetical workload only after specifying its services, region, configuration, and expected usage; the calculator’s result depends on those assumptions, so it is not a universal price for a project. AWS cautions: “Free Tier isn’t included in your AWS Pricing Calculator estimates unless it’s specifically called out otherwise.”

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Day 6: Review security and billing basics
Return to the Cloud Essentials material for its security and pricing coverage. Read the account-plan terms rather than relying on the word “free”: the current AWS offer page, accessed October 5, 2026, advertises up to $200 in credits for new customers—$100 initially and the potential to earn up to $100 more—with eligibility and plan conditions. Offer availability is not established for every country, account, or user, so check the terms relevant to your own account.
AWS documentation says the Free account plan ends after six months or when credits run out, whichever comes first, and describes account closure and resource and data handling after expiry. Some services or features may not be available under that plan; eligible use beyond credits can be billed under the Paid plan. Review the current Free Tier documentation and plan details before experimenting.

Day 7: Choose a next step
Decide whether you want more guided practice or a certification-focused path. You can continue with AWS’s self-paced learning and beginner practice, including AWS Educate, which AWS describes as beginner-focused. If certification is your goal, read the current Cloud Practitioner exam guide (CLF-C02) before planning study. An introductory week is not evidence that you are exam-ready.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to keep AWS learning costs and account limits in view
Use this checklist before any console experiment:
- Check your account plan, offer eligibility, and the terms that apply to your account.
- Confirm the service, feature, and region you intend to use are available under that plan.
- Estimate the configuration and usage in the Pricing Calculator; record the assumptions rather than treating the result as a guaranteed bill.
- Remember that Free Tier is generally excluded from calculator estimates unless explicitly called out.
- Read the plan’s duration, credit, expiry, and resource/data-handling terms before creating resources.
The offer and account pages describe different conditions and may change. Use the current AWS pages for your location and account instead of assuming that a general offer applies to everyone.
Should a beginner study for AWS Cloud Practitioner?
Cloud Practitioner is an optional next objective, not a requirement for learning cloud fundamentals. AWS’s CLF-C02 exam guide describes the certification as demonstrating overall AWS Cloud knowledge independent of a specific job role and includes a Billing, Pricing, and Support domain. Use the guide to judge whether its scope fits your goal and to check the current exam outline; the guide’s scope may be revised.
An AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner study guide can make sense if you have decided to prepare for the certification and prefer a physical study resource. It is not necessary to understand basic cloud concepts, and no particular book or edition is established here as the right choice.
