Buy only to solve a specific work problem. A phone can handle many work tasks, but it does not replace a laptop for every job.
Can you use an iPhone 17 as a work phone?
Yes, for work that fits a phone-sized screen and touch interface: capturing tasks, writing shorter messages, reviewing or signing PDFs, scanning documents and joining compatible accessory workflows. iOS 26 adds several useful built-in tools, so try those before paying for an app or accessory.

Capture tasks in Reminders
Reminders is a practical place for follow-ups and quick task capture. Apple’s iOS 26 guide describes shortcuts for creating reminders through the Action button or Control Center. Some enhanced reminder suggestions depend on Apple Intelligence; availability varies by language and region, so check your settings and Apple’s current availability information rather than assuming every feature is enabled for you. Handle PDFs with Preview
For forms and document tasks, Apple’s guide describes Preview features for editing PDFs, filling and signing forms, scanning documents and sharing files. Try these built-in options before purchasing a separate utility, while confirming that the particular document or workflow is supported.

Reuse a charger and cable before buying anything
Apple says iPhone 15 and later can charge and connect to a variety of devices over USB-C. A standards-compliant USB-C power adapter can charge the iPhone; Apple says an adapter rated at 20W or higher can provide faster charging. A computer’s USB-C port can also charge it. Use the included cable for charging and ordinary connections, but do not mistake its USB 2 data capability for a faster data cable. If your work regularly involves moving large files to external storage, check the cable and device specifications first; a faster cable may be useful for that specific workflow. Apple also cautions that non-compliant cables or devices may not work as expected, and some third-party accessories can interfere with wireless connections. Apple Support USB-C guidance

Connect a monitor only if a larger view helps
Except for iPhone 17e, iPhone 17 supports an external display over USB-C, up to 4K at 60 Hz with a suitable display and cable. A standard connection mirrors the iPhone screen; some apps offer their own second-screen experiences, but that is not the same as a general desktop interface. Some displays may require an adapter. Add a keyboard only if touch typing is slowing you down
If you routinely write long emails or documents, a compact Bluetooth keyboard is a reasonable optional add-on. First try one you already have; otherwise, compare compatible models locally because prices and availability change. No particular model or current lowest price is established here, so treat this as a category suggestion, not a product test or price recommendation.

Use other USB-C accessories selectively
Apple lists external storage, microphones, USB-to-Ethernet adapters and SD-card adapters among the devices that may connect through USB-C. Whether one is worthwhile depends on the task: for example, wired Ethernet may help where Wi-Fi is unavailable, while external storage can help with file handling.
