Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →An API/UI impression mismatch does not, by itself, mean either view is wrong. The usual causes are comparing different aggregation levels, dates, filters, or dimensions—or treating the UI’s visible query rows as a complete total. Align those settings first, then account for privacy omissions, row limits, and recent-data changes.
Start by aligning the comparison
Before investigating a discrepancy, make sure the UI report and API request describe the same data. Work through these checks in order:
- Use the same property and Search type. Confirm that both sides use the same Search Console property and type, such as Web, News, or Image.
- Compare matching, complete dates. Outside the 24-hour view, Performance report dates are labeled in Pacific Time. Compare the same full calendar days in Pacific Time—not UTC-day buckets against report dates or a browser-local 24-hour range.
- Exclude unsettled days. Google says collected data is usually available in 2–3 days, and the newest report data can be preliminary and change over the next few hours. For a stable comparison, use older completed days. The chart marks preliminary data with a dotted line. See Google’s Performance report data guidance.
- Match filters. Check country, device, page, query, and Search appearance filters on both sides. Query filters can affect anonymized-query handling; filters and truncation can also make filtered match and non-match totals fail to add up to the unfiltered total.
- Match dimensions and aggregation. Decide whether you need property-level or page-level impressions, then use the corresponding API aggregation and dimensions. A Pages or Search appearance table may not measure impressions on the same basis as the chart.
- Compare totals separately from row sums. Do not assume that adding the visible UI query rows will reproduce the chart total. The table has a display cap, and some queries are withheld or rows omitted.
- Check for a date-specific incident. Review Google’s Search Console anomaly log for an issue affecting the report and dates in question; a listed incident is relevant only when it matches your data.
Keep a record of the property, Search type, date range, filters, dimensions, and aggregation used in each comparison. That makes it easier to locate which setting accounts for the difference.
Property aggregation and page aggregation count impressions differently
Aggregation is a frequent source of mismatches. With property aggregation, multiple results from the same property for one query count as one impression for that property. With page aggregation, each unique URL counts separately. If one query shows several pages from your site, page-aggregated impressions can therefore exceed property-aggregated impressions.

Google documents that the Performance chart is always property-aggregated, while the Pages and Search appearance dimension tables are page-aggregated. A chart total and a Pages-table total are not necessarily expected to match, even when viewed in the same report. Check the aggregation definition in Google’s Search Console aggregation guidance and the Search Analytics API reference before comparing them.
Why query rows do not add up to the chart
The query table is a breakdown of rows Google makes available for display, not a complete accounting ledger of the chart’s total. Google identifies several reasons the chart and table can differ:

- Anonymized queries: Google withholds some query strings to protect privacy. These impressions can contribute to chart totals while the queries are absent from the query table, unless a query filter is applied.
- Internal truncation: Google may omit some query rows from the table. Rare or long-tail rows can be missing from the visible breakdown even when included in the chart total.
- UI row cap: The table can display up to 1,000 rows. A long report may have more data than the UI can show.
- Filtered results: Privacy omissions and truncation can prevent filtered match and non-match totals from adding up to the unfiltered total.
Google’s Performance report troubleshooting guidance documents these chart-versus-table differences. For the most complete query list, Google points users to bulk data export; check the export coverage and configuration for the property you need in the bulk data export documentation.
UI and API row limits are separate
The UI and API have different documented limits. Google Search Central Help’s current documentation, accessed October 5, 2026, gives these figures:

| Access method | Documented limit or coverage | What it means for comparisons |
|---|---|---|
| Search Console UI table | Up to 1,000 rows | The displayed rows may not include every query or page contributing to the chart total. |
| Search Analytics API | Up to 50,000 performance-data rows per day, per search type, per property | A single API query is not a guarantee of an unrestricted export; date, dimensions, filters, sorting, row limits, and quota still matter. |
| Bulk data export | Google identifies it as the route to the most complete query list | Useful for deeper analysis; confirm the particular property’s export setup and coverage. |
The API supports filtering, sorting, aggregation type, and report features, but it is not a freeform SQL interface and is subject to usage quota. The 50,000-row ceiling is a daily limit for each search type and property, not a limit shared across all properties. See Google’s API export guidance.
When a broader measurement difference is—and is not—the explanation
If the discrepancy is between the Search Console API and Search Console UI, first investigate settings, aggregation, row visibility, and freshness: both views come from Search Console reporting, and cross-tool causes should not be applied automatically.

When comparing Search Console with analytics software, the systems may measure different events or process data differently. Google lists source processing such as duplicate elimination, time lag, time zone, privacy, and JavaScript-dependent tracking as possible reasons for differences. Those explanations are relevant to cross-tool comparisons, not a substitute for checking whether an API request and UI report are aligned.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When an anomaly log entry matters
Google’s anomaly log is useful for checking known, date-specific reporting incidents, but an entry is not a general explanation for mismatches. For example, Google logged a Generative AI in Search impressions issue for August 13–17, 2026, and posted that the missing data had been restored on August 21, 2026. That incident applies to the affected report feature and dates; it does not explain ordinary Search performance discrepancies outside that scope.
