1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteA graphics problem does not automatically mean the graphics card has failed. A blank screen or flicker can come from the monitor, cable, display settings, driver, an app, or other system hardware. Start with checks that help isolate the cause, then choose the next step based on the symptom and what changed recently.
What to check first
Before changing drivers or opening the computer, note what the problem looks like and when it happens. This helps separate a display connection issue from a Windows setting, software conflict, or instability under load.
- Record the exact symptom: no display, flicker, visual artifacts, a crash, a driver timeout, overheating, or unusual fan noise.
- Note the graphics card and computer models, Windows version, and whether the problem began after a driver update, software or firmware change, or hardware change.
- Notice whether it happens at startup, while the computer is idle, or only during a demanding game or application.
Microsoft notes that a blank screen can occur in Windows for several reasons, so a black screen alone does not identify a failed component. Microsoft’s blank-screen troubleshooting guide recommends checking display connections and trying another compatible cable or monitor.
If the screen is blank or there is no display
- Check the display path. Confirm the monitor is powered on and the cable is firmly connected at both ends. If possible, try another compatible cable or monitor. Check that the connection is appropriate for the ports on both devices.
- Reset the graphics driver in Windows. Press Windows+Ctrl+Shift+B. This is a reversible Windows troubleshooting step; it does not establish whether the graphics card is defective.
- Check the display mode. Press Windows+P to cycle through Windows display modes in case output is directed to another screen.
- If Windows is accessible, try Safe Mode and review the driver. Microsoft’s guide explains how to start in Safe Mode and update or roll back a display driver. Use rollback if the problem followed a recent update; consider an update if the driver is outdated or otherwise implicated.
If the screen remains blank, the checks above still do not prove the GPU is the failed part. The monitor, cable, connection, driver, and other hardware remain possible causes.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If the display flickers or looks scrambled
First check whether the issue affects all screen content or only a particular app. Open Task Manager and observe whether it flickers along with the rest of the display:
- Task Manager flickers too: Microsoft says a display driver is a probable cause.
- Task Manager stays stable while other content flickers: an incompatible app is a probable cause.
Then match the driver action to the timing. If the flicker began after a driver update, consider rolling the driver back. If there was no recent update and the driver appears to be the issue, consider updating it; Microsoft also documents uninstalling a display driver as a troubleshooting option. Follow the steps in Microsoft’s screen-flicker guide rather than changing several things at once.

If games or other demanding apps crash or show a driver timeout
A timeout means Windows detected that the GPU took longer than permitted to display output. It points to a graphics-path stability problem, not necessarily a defective graphics card. Microsoft lists several possible contributors, including driver support, overclocked components, incompatible settings, insufficient cooling or power, defective components, and background load. See Microsoft’s documentation on timeout detection and recovery.
Consider the conditions around the failure before concluding that the card is at fault. NVIDIA notes that problems with the CPU, memory, motherboard, storage, or system memory can produce symptoms during intensive applications that resemble graphics-card trouble. NVIDIA’s troubleshooting guidance covers additional system checks.

- If you recently overclocked a component or changed graphics settings, restore the previous stable settings and see whether the symptom changes.
- Check whether the issue began after a software, driver, or firmware change. AMD advises reviewing recent changes as part of stability troubleshooting.
- Consider whether cooling, power delivery, or heavy background activity could be contributing. A timeout by itself does not distinguish among these causes.
AMD also describes a clean Radeon driver installation as one possible stability step. Its advice includes checking card seating and PSU connections where appropriate. Before making any hardware change, consult the exact product manual and the manufacturer’s support and warranty guidance; avoid invasive repair if the cause is unclear or warranty coverage may apply. See AMD’s stability tips and AMD’s stability and warranty troubleshooting guidance.
Choose driver changes based on what happened
There is no single driver action that fits every graphics issue. Microsoft advises choosing among updating, rolling back, or uninstalling based on the circumstances. In practical terms, the most useful clue is whether the problem began immediately after a driver change:

- Problem began after an update: consider rolling back to the previous driver.
- No recent update and the driver appears implicated: consider installing an appropriate update.
- Other driver steps have not resolved the issue: use the relevant Microsoft or GPU-maker instructions to assess whether uninstalling or, for Radeon systems, a clean installation is appropriate.
Use the instructions for your Windows version and graphics hardware. Avoid treating a driver reinstall as proof that the card itself is either healthy or defective.
