You configure the destination Sentry project’s DSN in the official SDK’s documented dsn initialization option. That is the documented configuration pattern, but the available guidance here does not establish that changing only the DSN works for every SDK and self-hosted Sentry release. Confirm compatibility for your specific versions and deployment before relying on it.
What the DSN controls
A Sentry project client key has associated DSN values. Sentry’s client-key API response illustrates a hosted DSN with an ingest.sentry.io host and a project identifier in its path; that example does not establish a URL format for a self-hosted instance. Use the DSN issued for the project in your destination instance rather than constructing a hostname or path yourself. See Sentry’s Create a New Client Key API documentation.
The SDK configuration is distinct from the Sentry web API. The API reference describes platform-resource requests and points SDK developers to separate SDK documentation. Its discussion of API domains and regional data locations is not a rule for SDK event-ingest hosts. The reference identifies the web API as v0 and notes that beta endpoints may change; those statements apply to the API, not to SDK versions. See Sentry’s API Reference.
Configure the destination project’s DSN
- Identify the destination project and client key. In the self-hosted Sentry instance, select or create the project that should receive events, then obtain its DSN from that instance. The client-key API documents project-associated DSN values.
- Set the SDK’s
dsnoption. Use the DSN in the SDK initialization configuration documented for your framework and SDK version. For example, Sentry’s Nest.js ESM documentation for v8.x passes a DSN string in thedsninitialization option. That is an example of the pattern, not a guarantee that every SDK uses the same setup. See Sentry for Nest.js: ESM (MJS). - Send a test event and confirm its destination. Verify that the event appears in the intended project in the self-hosted instance. If it does not, check that the SDK is using the destination project’s DSN and that your deployment’s network and routing allow the SDK to reach its ingest endpoint.
Is changing only the DSN enough?
It is the documented way to supply a destination DSN in the cited Nest.js ESM example. The cited material does not settle whether DSN-only routing works across all official SDK families and all supported self-hosted releases, or whether a particular deployment also requires transport, proxy, or server-side routing changes. Do not treat the pattern as universally sufficient without checking the documentation for your exact SDK and self-hosted release.

- Match the framework and SDK version to its initialization documentation.
- Check the destination self-hosted release documentation for supported SDKs and ingest configuration.
- Confirm the project DSN is accepted by that SDK and that the ingest host is reachable from the application environment.
- Verify delivery by checking the intended project for a test event.
