There is no single Mac mini alternative that suits every buyer: the right choice depends on the applications you use, whether you need Windows or macOS, how much memory and storage you need, and which ports and displays your desk setup requires. The options below range from everyday productivity PCs to configurable business minis and gaming systems. They are not directly benchmarked against one another, so treat this as a shortlist—not a performance ranking.
What to compare before choosing a Mac mini alternative
A small chassis does not tell you what a computer can sustain under a long or demanding workload. Mini PCs often use compact or laptop-class components, and performance can differ from that of a full-size desktop. Match the machine to the work you actually do rather than relying on a product category or an AI performance figure.
- Operating system and app compatibility: Check whether your required software runs on Windows, and whether it supports the processor architecture in the specific machine. This is especially important for ARM-based systems.
- Workload: Everyday office work, sustained creative workloads, gaming, and specialized AI tasks call for different classes of hardware. There is no established like-for-like performance comparison here with the Mac mini.
- Memory and storage: Confirm the amount and type of RAM, whether it is soldered or upgradeable, and how many storage slots or upgrade options the exact SKU provides.
- Connections: Count the USB and USB-C ports, video outputs, supported displays and resolutions, and wired networking ports against your actual peripherals.
- Desk fit: Check dimensions, mounting options, cooling and expected noise for the location where you plan to use the computer.
- Total cost and support: Compare the exact locally available configuration, warranty and support. Prices and configurations vary by retailer and region.
Compact desktop alternatives to consider
ASUS NUC 16 Pro: configurable, space-conscious option
ASUS announced the NUC 16 Pro in January 2026 as a 0.7-liter system and advertises up to 180 platform TOPS. That TOPS figure is an ASUS claim about platform capability, not an independent benchmark or an overall speed score, and capabilities depend on the processor configuration. ASUS’s catalog includes NUC models with differing memory, M.2 storage, display, Thunderbolt and networking options. Check the precise model and local availability before comparing it with a Mac mini. ASUS’s January 2026 announcement and ASUS’s NUC catalog are useful starting points.
ASUS ExpertCenter PN55: business mini with an AI-capable processor
The ExpertCenter PN55 is another ASUS business-oriented option. ASUS announced Ryzen AI 400 Series processors and up to 55 TOPS for the NPU; this is a vendor figure for the NPU, not a cross-system performance comparison. Check the configured model’s ports, memory, storage, warranty and regional availability. ASUS’s announcement describes the PN55 alongside the NUC 16 Pro.

Lenovo ThinkCentre Neo 50q Gen 5: business desktop line
The ThinkCentre Neo 50q Gen 5 is a compact, business-focused desktop. Lenovo highlights its Tiny form factor and multiple ports, but the exact processor, memory, connections, warranty and price depend on the configured model and market. It is worth considering if you want a business desktop line; compare the specific configuration rather than assuming all Neo 50q systems are alike. Lenovo’s ThinkCentre Neo 50q Gen 5 product page provides model details.
Beelink EQR6: budget-oriented productivity example
Windows Central’s 2026 guide presents the Beelink EQR6 as a budget option for general productivity. The configurations discussed offer upgradeable memory and storage, dual LAN and dual HDMI; the guide also notes a single USB-C port and no 32GB RAM option in the range it covers. Retail listings may differ, so verify the exact configuration and current availability before buying. Windows Central’s mini PC guide discusses the EQR6 and other systems.

Geekom Mini IT13: multi-display and upgrade options
Windows Central describes the Mini IT13 as having upgradeable memory and storage, support for up to four 4K displays, multiple ports and an included VESA mount. The cited configuration is based on an older platform than the latest announcements, so compare its exact SKU and price with newer systems before deciding. Its display capability may suit a multi-monitor desk, but verify the outputs and supported setup for the model you intend to buy. Windows Central’s guide covers the Mini IT13.
Lenovo IdeaCentre Mini x: ARM-based alternative
The Snapdragon X Plus configuration described by Windows Central has 32GB of soldered LPDDR5x memory and up to a 1TB SSD. Because its processor platform is ARM-based, check compatibility with your own applications and peripherals rather than assuming Windows software will work identically to an x86 system. Windows Central does not present this model as a gaming-first pick. Senior Editor Zac Bowden called it Lenovo’s “first true Mac Mini competitor”; that is an editorial characterization, not Lenovo’s official positioning. Windows Central’s guide describes the configuration.

ASUS ROG GR70: gaming-focused mini PC
The ROG GR70 is a different category from an office mini PC: ASUS positions it as a gaming system with RTX 5060 or RTX 5070 laptop GPU options. If gaming is the priority, check the exact GPU, memory, ports, cooling and price in the local SKU. Its gaming-oriented components make it a specialized alternative, not a direct all-purpose stand-in for every Mac mini workload. ASUS’s January 2026 announcement introduces the system.
ASUS Ascent GX10: specialist AI system
ASUS’s Ascent GX10 is a compact system aimed at specialized AI use. It should not be treated as a general Mac mini substitute for routine office work: consider it only if its intended AI workload matches your needs. ASUS’s announcement distinguishes the GX10 from its mini PC announcements.

How to narrow the shortlist
- Start with required software. Write down the applications and peripherals you cannot replace. For the IdeaCentre Mini x, confirm ARM compatibility; for Windows systems generally, confirm the app’s supported operating system and hardware requirements.
- Choose the right class. Look first at an everyday productivity model such as the EQR6 for routine work, a business line such as the ThinkCentre Tiny or ASUS ExpertCenter for a business-oriented configuration, or a gaming/specialist system only when that workload is central.
- Verify the exact SKU. Compare processor, RAM capacity and whether it can be upgraded, storage slots, display outputs, network ports and included mounting hardware. Manufacturer catalogs and retailer listings can cover multiple configurations under one product name.
- Check the desk setup. Confirm display count and resolution, cable and peripheral connections, physical dimensions, mounting and the cooling/noise trade-offs of the compact enclosure.
- Compare the complete local offer. Use the price for the exact configuration in your market, and include warranty and support in the decision. Availability and specifications can vary by model and region.
