Yes—the October 15, 2024 date proved accurate: Google began rolling Android 15 out to Pixel devices that day. But the date was not publicly announced weeks in advance. An August report attributed the mid-October expectation to a source; Google’s official Android release record later listed October 15 for the initial Android 15 release.
What the August rumor actually said
On August 26, 2024, Android Authority’s Mishaal Rahman reported that a source expected the Pixel Android 15 update might miss September and arrive around the middle of October. Google did not give a date in response to the initial report. Android Authority later updated the story to note Google’s confirmation that the Pixel update would arrive in October, but that was not an official October 15 announcement. Android Authority’s August report was a source-based prediction, not a published Google schedule.
The timing mattered because Android’s source-code publication and Pixel over-the-air (OTA) updates do not always happen together. Android Authority discussed earlier same-day releases and Android 12 as an exception, and suggested testing, marketing, or bug-fixing as possible reasons for a delay. Those were the report’s contextual explanations, not a stated Google policy.
How October 15 was confirmed
Two records clarify what happened, and what each date means:
#1 Best Overall
- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
- Official Android release record: Android Developers lists the Android 15 initial release as October 15, 2024, with build AP3A.241005.015 and an October 2024 security patch level. This is the date for the initial Generic System Image (GSI) release. Android Developers notes that Android 15 GSI binaries are built from the same AOSP and GMS sources as corresponding Google Pixel builds. Android Developers’ GSI release record also lists validated devices.
- Pixel rollout: TechCrunch reported on October 15 that Google was rolling Android 15 out to Pixel devices that day. That contemporaneous report confirms the Pixel rollout began on October 15. TechCrunch’s launch-day coverage describes the rollout and related features.
A rollout beginning on October 15 does not mean every eligible Pixel received the OTA that day, or at the same time. The cited records do not specify an exact delivery hour or a universal schedule for every carrier and region.
Which Pixel devices were in scope
Android Authority’s August report named these devices as expected to receive the stable update:
Rank #2
- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
- Pixel 6, 6 Pro, and 6a
- Pixel 7, 7 Pro, and 7a
- Pixel 8, 8 Pro, and 8a
- Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, and 9 Pro Fold
- Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet
The Android Developers record also lists these models among its validated GSI devices. That list establishes validation for the GSI; it is not a carrier-by-carrier OTA delivery schedule or a guarantee that each device received the update on launch day.

TechCrunch’s same-day report also covered Google’s October Pixel Drop. Its improved low-light photography in Instagram and underwater photography and video support were Pixel Drop additions, not features to attribute to Android 15 generally. The operating-system release and the Pixel-specific feature drop were discussed together, but they are distinct updates.
