The Nothing Phone (1) has meaningful overlap with Canadian mobile network bands, but that alone does not guarantee 5G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling, or dependable coverage on a particular carrier. It is also an older model whose promised major Android updates have ended. If you are considering one in Canada, check its exact variant and IMEI with the carrier, confirm the phone’s condition and update status, and weigh repair access before buying.
Will the Nothing Phone (1) work on Canadian networks?
It may work on Canadian networks, but compatibility depends on more than whether a band appears in both the phone’s specifications and a carrier’s network list. Nothing’s Canadian specification lists these radios:

What a 2023 Canadian carrier comparison found
In a report published February 28, 2023, MobileSyrup identified Telus, Bell, Rogers, and Koodo as better-fit options among the carriers it compared, based on supported 5G frequencies and greater overlap with their 4G and 3G bands. The report also noted gaps, including in its comparison with Fido, and cautioned that coverage was not complete. Treat that as a dated analysis, not a current carrier compatibility list or guarantee. Verify calling features and service with the carrier
The available sources do not establish carrier-by-carrier support for Phone (1) VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling, or 5G provisioning in Canada. Anecdotal forum posts raise questions about these features, but user reports are not proof of compatibility. Before relying on the phone, contact the carrier with the exact device variant and IMEI and ask whether it can be activated with the features you need. Also check coverage at your home, workplace, and regular travel routes; a band chart cannot answer that for your locations.
What is day-to-day ownership like?
Nothing Canada’s product page lists a few practical specifications: dual SIM, NFC with Google Pay support, Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 4/5/6, and IP53 splash, water, and dust resistance. These are manufacturer-listed features, not independent test results. IP53 should not be treated as waterproofing. Has software support ended?
Nothing’s original Canadian product information promised three years of Android updates and four years of security patches delivered every two months. Nothing Community later said the Phone (1), which launched with Android 12, received Android 15 as its final major Android update, completing the three-major-update commitment. The model has therefore completed its promised major Android-version upgrades; do not assume it will receive another major OS update.
The exact endpoint for security patches is not established here, and the patch level can differ from one used phone to another. Check Nothing’s Phone (1) end-of-lifecycle announcement and inspect the individual device’s installed security update before buying. The original support promise is on Nothing Canada’s product page.

What should you check before buying a used Phone (1)?
Because this is an older phone, assess the particular device and the support and service you can expect—not just its model name or advertised condition. MobileSyrup reported in 2023 that repair services it contacted did not have Phone (1) parts available in Canada at that time. That report does not prove parts are unavailable everywhere today, so ask local repair providers about current parts and service before committing.
- Confirm the exact model and carrier acceptance. Give the carrier the variant and IMEI and ask about activation, VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling, and 5G access.
- Check the handset itself. Inspect the screen, cameras, buttons, charging port, battery condition, and signs of damage. Confirm the installed Android version and security patch level in Settings.
- Check the sale terms. Establish who the seller is, whether the phone is unlocked, what return window applies, and whether any warranty remains.
- Ask about repairability locally. Contact repair services about Phone (1)-specific parts and likely service options; do not assume older reporting describes current availability.
- Compare the total value. Factor in completed major OS support, verified carrier features, repair prospects, condition, and return protection rather than judging by the asking price alone.
No current Canadian price or seller listing is established here, so compare actual offers and terms when shopping. If you need predictable ongoing software support or confirmed carrier features, an older used Phone (1) may be a poor fit even when its bands overlap.
