Microsoft’s current-branch report catalogue groups them by category and gives each report’s name and purpose. The installed inventory depends on your Configuration Manager version: Microsoft says Asset Intelligence and its 67 reports apply to version 2603 and earlier and are removed starting in version 2609.
What reports come with Configuration Manager?
The built-in catalogue covers common administration and operations tasks, from client health and inventory to software-update troubleshooting. These examples show the range of the catalogue; check Microsoft’s linked list for exact names, descriptions, and categories.
| Task | Example built-in reports | What they cover |
|---|---|---|
| Administrative security | Administration activity log; Security roles summary; Security scopes summary | Administrative changes and relationships among administrators, roles, scopes, and secured objects. |
| Client health | Client status summary; Client remediation details; Inactive clients details | Client check results, remediation actions, and inactive clients. |
| Compliance and settings | Compliance history of a configuration baseline; details of compliant, conflicting, error, and non-compliant rules | Compliance history and rule-level evaluation detail for an asset or baseline. |
| Endpoint protection | Antimalware activity report; Infected computers; User threat list | Antimalware activity, computers with a detected threat, and threats associated with a user. |
| Hardware inventory | Computer information for a specific computer; Computers with low free disk space; Memory information for a specific computer | Per-device inventory and scoped hardware or storage queries. |
| Site and discovery | Clients that have not reported recently; Computers with duplicate MAC addresses; Inventory dates for a specific computer | Discovery and inventory recency, duplicate identifiers, and last inventory times. |
| Software updates | Reports for compliance, deployment management, deployment states, scans, and troubleshooting | Update compliance, deployment targeting, client states, scan states, and scan or deployment errors. |
| Status messages | Count errors in the last 12 hours; Fatal errors by component; Last 1000 messages for a specific computer | Recent status-message counts and filtered error or warning histories. |
Where to find the built-in reports
In the Configuration Manager console, go to Monitoring > Reporting > Reports. The report list is populated through SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), which Configuration Manager uses as its primary reporting solution.
A reporting services point is a site system role that copies report definitions into SSRS, creates folders from report categories, and applies security policies. Microsoft says the reports are copied during reporting services point installation. If the Reports node is empty, check whether this role is installed and configured.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Power BI Report Server integration is optional and has been available starting with Configuration Manager version 2002. It does not replace the need to configure the reporting services point for the standard SSRS reports.
How to choose the right report
Start with the task or category, then read the report description and check its parameters. A report may ask for a collection, device, site, or date range; these values target or limit the data returned. The report’s query and required parameter values determine which records appear.

- Match the question: use the report description to distinguish a summary from a device-level, deployment-level, or troubleshooting view.
- Check the data scope: confirm the reporting database can see the site or hierarchy data you need.
- Review parameters: supply the requested collection, computer, site, or dates to focus the results.
- Verify version applicability: report availability can change between Configuration Manager releases.
Data scope and reporting permissions
A report runs against the site database associated with its reporting services point. A central administration site database can provide hierarchy-wide global and site data. A primary site’s database provides global data plus site data for that primary site and its child secondary sites, but not site data for other primary sites. Select the data source according to whether the question is site-specific or hierarchy-wide.
Users need appropriate Configuration Manager permissions to run or modify reports. Microsoft’s planning documentation specifies the Site Read right plus object-specific permissions for running reports; the reporting overview also describes the Run Report permission. Role-based permissions are applied in Reporting Services, and data in included reports is filtered according to the rights of the user running the report.

For best reporting performance, Microsoft recommends placing the reporting services point on a remote site system. Its background processing can otherwise compete with other site-server roles for system resources.
Version and language details to check
- Current branch: Microsoft’s catalogue is for Configuration Manager current branch.
- Asset Intelligence: Microsoft states that the category and its reports are removed starting in version 2609; the catalogue identifies its 67 reports as applicable to version 2603 and earlier. Do not assume they exist in a 2609 installation.
- Folder and report language: Reporting Services uses the site server locale. If the corresponding language pack is unavailable, Configuration Manager defaults to English. If you install a language pack after the reporting services point, Microsoft says to uninstall and reinstall that role for reports to become available in the language-pack language.
- Customization: Report folders are read-only in the Configuration Manager console. Administrators can create or modify reports with Report Builder, and SQL statements in supplied reports can be used as a starting point for custom reports.
Check your local inventory
The Microsoft catalogue is the reference for default report names and descriptions, but a specific site’s deployed and customized reports can differ. Confirm the target Configuration Manager version and inspect the Reports node in that environment when you need a local inventory.
