What Crunchyroll announced about offline viewing
On February 2, 2026, Crunchyroll announced U.S. monthly price increases and described downloads for offline viewing on one device as a new Fan benefit. It listed offline HD downloads for Mega Fan and offline viewing as a benefit of Ultimate Fan. The new rates were set to appear for existing monthly subscribers on their next billing date after March 4, 2026. Read Crunchyroll’s announcement.
That Fan-tier wording is not reflected in Crunchyroll’s current general premium-plan marketing, which promotes offline viewing for Mega Fan and Ultimate Fan and says benefits can differ by tier and region. The available official pages do not explain the mismatch, so the February U.S. announcement should not be taken as proof that Fan downloads are currently available in every country or app. Check Crunchyroll’s current plan page and the local offer before choosing.

Crunchyroll said existing monthly subscribers would see the announced rates on their next billing date after March 4, 2026. The announcement’s stated benefits and regional store perks should not be assumed to apply everywhere; compare the price, billing term, download eligibility and quality, stream limit, extras, country, and device shown in your own offer.
What Switch users should know
Nintendo’s FAQ says offline viewing in the Crunchyroll app on Nintendo Switch is available only to Mega Fan and Ultimate Fan members. This is a Switch-specific rule and does not settle eligibility in mobile apps or other regions. Nintendo says the app is not compatible with Switch 2, and that service on supported Switch systems is scheduled to end October 30, 2026; existing users can continue until then. Storage and syncing
Nintendo says episodes or whole seasons can be synced for offline viewing. Downloads use an inserted microSD card, or internal storage if no card is inserted. A card is strongly recommended because downloads can use substantial storage, but it is not required; Nintendo does not specify a card capacity or speed in the FAQ. There is no fixed number-of-video limit: available storage is the constraint.
Syncing pauses while a video is playing and resumes when the app is open and connected again. These instructions apply to the Switch app, not phone downloads. Nintendo explains Switch storage and syncing.

How to choose a plan for downloads
- Check your country and device. Open Crunchyroll’s plan offer for your location and confirm the app or device you intend to use; tier benefits can vary by region.
- Confirm offline eligibility before paying. The February 2026 U.S. announcement includes Fan downloads on one device, while the current general plan page emphasizes Mega Fan and Ultimate Fan. On Switch, Nintendo specifies Mega Fan or Ultimate Fan.
- Compare the full offer, not just the tier name. Check monthly versus annual billing, download quality, simultaneous streams, and extras such as Game Vault in the local plan details.
- For Switch, check the service timeline and storage. Nintendo’s stated end date is October 30, 2026. Downloads can use internal storage; a microSD card is optional.
The reviewed official pages do not establish title-by-title download availability, download expiration rules, or universal offline limits across mobile operating systems. Check current app and regional support details for those specifics.
