The Pixel 10a has a much newer processor generation than the Pixel 6, but the available sources do not establish exactly how much faster it is in everyday use. Google lists Tensor G4 in the 10a and the original Tensor in the Pixel 6; both have 8 GB of RAM. There is no controlled, same-conditions benchmark here comparing the two models directly, so claims of a specific speed increase—or that they perform about the same—would go beyond the evidence.
Is the Pixel 10a faster than the Pixel 6?
On paper, the Pixel 10a is the newer hardware: it uses Google Tensor G4, while the Pixel 6 launched with the first-generation Google Tensor. Both are listed with 8 GB of RAM. That establishes a generational difference in the processor, not a measured real-world speed advantage.
To answer how much faster one feels, a useful comparison would test both phones under comparable software versions, benchmark versions, temperatures, battery conditions, and settings. The available results do not meet that standard. The defensible answer is that the 10a has newer silicon, but its direct performance gain over the Pixel 6 is not quantified by these sources.

Equal RAM capacity does not mean equal app performance or multitasking. Processor design, software, storage, thermal behavior, and workload all matter. Likewise, a display’s refresh-rate range can affect how smooth motion appears, but it is not a CPU or GPU benchmark.

What benchmark results are available?
Pixel 10a review results
Android Central’s 2026 review reports Pixel 10a Geekbench 6 scores of 1,694 single-core and 4,501 multi-core. The review’s comparison is with the Pixel 9a, which scored 1,707 and 4,512 respectively; Android Central concludes those two phones perform about the same in its benchmark tests. That is useful context for the 10a, but it does not compare it with the Pixel 6. The same review reports 3,109 in Geekbench AI CPU quantized and 2,667 points at 15.97 fps in 3DMark Wild Life Extreme Unlimited. These, too, are Pixel 10a results rather than a Pixel 6 head-to-head. A separate Geekbench submission
Geekbench Browser lists one Pixel 10a Geekbench 6.7.1 submission uploaded July 28, 2026: 1,509 single-core and 3,152 multi-core, on Android 17, identifying Tensor G4. It is one submitted run, not a model-wide average or a comparison with Pixel 6. Its difference from the review’s figures is a reason not to treat an individual score as a fixed result. Why the scores cannot produce a reliable speed percentage
The review figures and the individual submission come from separate runs, and neither supplies a matched Pixel 6 result under the same conditions. Combining separate results to calculate a percentage would imply a precision the evidence does not support. Nor do the available results establish graphics performance against Pixel 6, sustained speed under heat, app-launch times, or multitasking differences.
What might matter in daily use?
Apps, multitasking, and games
The chip generation points to newer hardware, but these sources do not measure whether the 10a opens your apps faster, keeps more of them ready, or sustains a higher frame rate in a particular game than the Pixel 6. Those outcomes depend on the app, software version, device condition, and workload. If one of these is the reason to upgrade, look for a direct test of that specific task rather than treating processor generation or a score from another phone as a substitute.

On-device AI
Android Central’s reviewer says the Pixel 10a cannot run mainline Gemini Nano models and identifies on-device AI as a limitation, distinguishing those capabilities from cloud-based features. This is the reviewer’s assessment of the 10a, not a controlled comparison with Pixel 6, and it should not be generalized to every current or future AI feature. If your sole reason to switch is a guaranteed, measurable performance jump, the available evidence cannot promise one. The 10a’s Tensor G4 is newer than the Pixel 6’s original Tensor, but there is no direct test here to quantify the improvement for your apps or games.

Support life is a separate consideration. Google’s Pixel 6 materials promised at least five years of security updates. Google lists seven years of OS, security, and Pixel Drop updates for Pixel 10a, counted from its first availability on the Google Store in the United States. These are different support-horizon statements; the cited Pixel 6 material does not establish an exact end date. The support figures describe update commitments, not how long either phone will remain fast.

- Consider the 10a if you want a newer processor generation and a longer stated update horizon, while accepting that the performance difference from Pixel 6 is not measured here.

- Prioritize a task-specific comparison if gaming, sustained performance, multitasking, or a particular AI feature is the deciding factor.
