Most people do not need a separate mobile antivirus app just because they use Android or an iPhone. Both platforms have built-in security protections, but they work differently. Start with your phone’s own protections and updates; add an app only if it addresses a specific need, such as filtering scams or protecting your network privacy.
What your phone already protects
Android and iPhone use different security designs. Android includes Google Play Protect, which checks apps. Apple emphasizes reviewed, signed apps and sandboxing that limits what one app can do to another. That difference matters: an iPhone security app should not be treated as a desktop-style antivirus scanner with access to the whole system.
| Platform | Built-in protection | What that means for an extra app |
|---|---|---|
| Android | Google Play Protect checks apps, including apps installed from outside Google Play. Google says it scans apps daily, supports user-initiated full-device scans, provides offline protection for known harmful apps, and checks non-Play installs in real time. Depending on the finding, it may warn, block installation, disable an app, or remove it. Google Play Protect documentation and on-device protections. | Look for a distinct capability rather than assuming another app can replace or improve every built-in check. |
| iPhone (iOS) | Apple describes app security as relying on centralized distribution, code signing, and strict sandboxing. Third-party apps ordinarily cannot gather or modify another app’s data or change the device except through system-provided services. Apple’s app security overview and runtime security documentation. | An app may offer a particular service, but should not be represented as scanning all iPhone files or other apps for viruses in the desktop-antivirus sense. |
Apple’s distribution approach is not identical everywhere: in the European Union, users may install apps through alternative marketplaces or authorized developers’ websites under regional rules. Android protections and other safety features can also vary by region, carrier, device, and manufacturer. Google’s Android security overview covers features for scams and phishing, theft, account security, payments, updates, and privacy.
When an extra security app may help
Choose by the risk you want to reduce, not by a generic “security” label. Features can differ by operating system, model, region, and subscription tier, so confirm that a service actually works on your device and does the job you need.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
- Malicious apps: On Android, check Play Protect first, especially if you install apps outside Google Play. Google says its protections include checks of non-Play installs. Its stated scale of 200 billion Android apps scanned daily is a Google figure, with no year stated on the source page; it describes scan volume, not independently measured detection accuracy. On iPhone, do not buy an app on the promise that it can perform a system-wide virus scan.
- Phishing and scams: A tool that flags suspicious messages, links, or calls may be useful if it supports the apps and services you use. These protections are not interchangeable with malware scanning. Android’s available scam and phishing features vary across devices and locations.
- Account compromise: Prioritize account-specific protections, such as strong unique passwords and multifactor authentication where available. A phone security app cannot by itself secure an account whose credentials have been exposed.
- Device theft: Check your phone’s built-in theft and recovery options before paying for another tool. Availability and behavior depend on device and region.
- Network privacy: If you need a VPN or another network-privacy service, evaluate it as that specific service—not as proof that the phone is protected from every threat.
Start with the protections you already have
On Android
- Install available Android system and security updates, and update apps through their supported channels.
- Open Google Play Store > profile picture > Play Protect to review the device’s app-security status. Labels may differ by device or Play Store version.
- Keep Play Protect enabled. If you install an app from outside Google Play, pay particular attention to its source and the warnings shown during installation.
- Review the security, privacy, account, and theft-protection settings available on your specific phone. Android features are not uniform across every manufacturer, carrier, or region.
Google’s on-device protections documentation, last updated August 15, 2025, describes daily scans, user-initiated scans, and real-time checks of non-Play installs. Google also announced additional protections against in-call scams, malicious sideloading, and harmful apps in a May 13, 2025 post. Some protections discussed there depend on Android 16 and device support; they should not be assumed to exist on every Android phone. Google’s 2025 Android security and privacy update attributes the statement “Android’s intelligent protections keep you safe from everyday dangers” to Dave Kleidermacher, Google’s VP Engineering, Android Security & Privacy; it is Google’s characterization, not an independent test result.
On iPhone
- Install current iOS updates and keep apps updated.
- Use the iPhone’s available account, passcode, privacy, and device-recovery protections. The exact settings and names can change between iOS releases.
- Assess third-party apps by the service they explicitly provide—such as a supported scam alert or network-privacy feature—not by claims of unrestricted access to iOS.
Lockdown Mode is for a different threat level
Apple’s Lockdown Mode is an optional, specialized setting for the very small number of people who may be personally targeted by highly sophisticated attacks. It limits some messaging, browsing, connectivity, and other functions, trading convenience for additional restrictions. It is not a routine requirement for every iPhone owner. Apple’s support page, published September 18, 2026, says it applies to iOS 16 or later and notes that later releases add protections; check the current guidance for your version before enabling it. - SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
How to choose a third-party app
Before subscribing or installing, verify each item below for your exact phone, operating-system version, location, and intended use.
- Compatibility: Is the feature available on your Android model or iPhone and in your region?
- Specific capability: Does it address malware, scams, account security, theft, or network privacy—and is that capability genuinely available on your platform?
- Overlap: Does it duplicate a built-in feature you already use?
- Privacy: What data does the app collect, why does it collect it, and how does its privacy policy describe sharing and retention?
- Costs and trade-offs: Check the full recurring price, trial terms, battery use, notifications, and any functionality limits.
- Maintenance: Review the developer’s update and support policy, and check whether the app remains compatible with current OS releases.
Do not treat a long feature list or a vendor’s scan-volume claim as proof of detection quality. A useful comparison needs independent test evidence and current, product-specific details; without those, there is no sound basis to rank named apps or claim one is best.
