Before deciding which screen wins, verify the completed conversion, trace the event through the full flow, and measure each next-step action consistently.
What should a confirmation screen test measure?
Start by separating two jobs: recording that the underlying transaction succeeded and helping the user know what to do next. A page view or button click is not proof that a booking, order, or enquiry was completed. Define the business event that counts as success, then define what the confirmation screen is meant to help the user accomplish.
That next task might be managing a reservation, uploading a document, or leaving a comment. In a facility-management case study, RA Labs found users asking, “What happens next?”, “Where do I manage this?”, and “Do I need to upload anything?” The previous page buried actions in a dropdown and combined several jobs. The design question was therefore not simply whether a page looked clearer, but whether people could find and complete the useful next task while the original booking remained successful. RA Labs’ case study
Check that tracking fires only after a real completion
Follow the full user journey in a preview or debugging mode, rather than checking only that a tag exists. PocketSuite’s Google Tag Manager guidance cautions that a page-title element can appear on multiple screens; its trigger requires both the selector and confirmation text, and the event should appear only after the completion screen loads. As PocketSuite puts it, “Your trigger should appear under Tags Fired only after the confirmation screen loads — not before.” PocketSuite’s confirmation-screen trigger guide

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Complete a successful booking, order, or submission and verify that the business record exists.
- Watch the event sequence: successful underlying action, confirmation view, exposure to the next action, action start, and action completion.
- Submit an invalid or failed attempt and check that it does not register as a completed conversion.
- Reload the confirmation page and return to it later where relevant; verify that the original conversion is not counted again.
- Compare analytics events with the system of record, such as the completed order or booking. A tracking event without a matching business record—or multiple events for one record—needs investigation.
The exact implementation depends on the platform and tracking setup. The key is to verify event timing and conditions in the actual flow, not infer success from a button click or a page title alone. Use the same denominator for comparable actions
A percentage is meaningful only when its denominator is clear. Reach and completion answer different questions:
- Reach: of all eligible users or sessions, what share encountered or started the next action?
- Conditional completion: of the people who started that action, what share finished it?
In RA Labs’ case study, the initial post-launch measures mixed these definitions: comment reach was the share of sessions with a comment, while upload success was completion among people who had started an upload. The team later tracked both reach and completion for both actions. Its designer, Tetiana Kramarska, described the issue directly: “Two different denominators for two similar actions is a measurement gap, not a design result.” RA Labs’ case study

For a fair comparison, define the eligible population and report both reach and completion for each next action when both matter. Keep the primary conversion separate: an increase in clicks on “Upload document” does not establish that more users completed an upload, and neither metric substitutes for completed bookings or orders.

Choose the hypothesis and outcome before the test
Write the hypothesis in terms of a user task and a business outcome. For example: making “Upload document” visible will increase the share of eligible users who start an upload without reducing completion among starters. That is a testable proposition, not evidence that the design will work.
Choose one primary outcome before exposure begins, then select diagnostic measures that explain the result. Depending on the screen, useful measures can include completed transactions, reach to a next step, completion among starters, errors, and time to complete. Treat clicks as diagnostic behavior rather than completed work. Record the eligible population and the exact denominator for every percentage.

Compare periods in which both variants actually served to comparable audiences. Note when each variant began, inspect exposure balance, and be cautious about traffic-source or timing differences. A delayed start can make lifetime totals misleading, while a change in incoming traffic can confound a conversion comparison. Avoid creating a winner through post-hoc audience slices; if results differ by a segment, treat that as exploratory unless the comparison was planned and adequately supported.
Why timing and denominators change the verdict
Fundraise Up reported a 44-day exit-screen test run from September to November 2024. Neither configuration produced a meaningful overall donation-conversion lift or meaningful change in average revenue per user. One treatment/control comparison reported email capture of 6% versus 4.4% among people reaching the relevant screen, even though absolute captures were lower because fewer people reached that screen. The percentage among screen visitors and the total number captured describe different outcomes; neither should be presented as the whole result. These are Fundraise Up’s vendor-reported case-study findings, not a general benchmark. Fundraise Up’s exit-screen test report
Mojo Dojo describes another interpretive trap: a staggered start produced a lifetime conversion comparison of 4.05% versus 1.11%, an apparent -73% effect, because most control conversions accrued before the variant began serving. On the first day both ran, each arm had one conversion. The post also reports CTR gaps between arms despite identical ads, while noting possible explanations including small samples, new-ad exploration, and serving asymmetry; it does not establish that traffic was comparable. These figures describe that anonymized account, not Google Ads behavior generally. Mojo Dojo’s landing-page experiment write-up

Read case-study results as evidence about that case
RA Labs reported these first-week changes after redesigning a reservation confirmation experience. They are early, source-specific observations, not expected effect sizes for another product or audience.
| Measure | RA Labs first-week result |
|---|---|
| Bounce rate | 59% to 36.24% |
| Task-completion time | 50.71 seconds to 29.66 seconds |
| Request-management clicks | About 5.6% to 29.7% |
| Error rate | About 4.2% to 2.5% |
RA Labs cautioned that the short first-week window could reflect novelty and weekday mix. Its author also said session-level totals were still needed to establish whether add-comment reach had returned to its pre-redesign share. RA Labs’ case study
In a three-week follow-up, RA Labs reported add-comment task completion of 90.37%, 91.91%, and 93.30%. Upload-document completion was 70.48%, 72.36%, and 73.43%, compared with a reported baseline of 85.28%. The upload series improved during follow-up but remained below that baseline; it does not by itself establish why, or what another confirmation screen would achieve. RA Labs’ case study

Report uncertainty instead of forcing a winner
A sound result may be null, mixed, or inconclusive. Fundraise Up’s report said its hypothesis was not confirmed for meaningful overall donation conversion or average revenue per user. RA Labs’ upload completion rose across its follow-up weeks but had not reached its reported baseline. Such findings are more useful than declaring a redesign successful from one favorable click metric.
There is no universal minimum duration or sample size established for confirmation-screen tests. Those requirements depend on the baseline, the effect worth detecting, the assignment unit, and the experimental design. State what the data supports, distinguish exploratory patterns from planned outcomes, and do not turn a small or noisy movement into a causal claim.
