The bulletin, published December 5 and updated December 7, covered issues across Android components and used two patch levels: 2022-12-01 and 2022-12-05. The headline figure “over 75” should not be treated as a verified total: the official table scope needed to substantiate that aggregate is not established here.
What the December 2022 Android update fixed
Google’s December 2022 Android Security Bulletin listed vulnerabilities by CVE, component, issue type, severity, and applicable Android Open Source Project (AOSP) versions. The most severe issue was rated critical: Google said a vulnerability in the System component could lead to remote code execution over Bluetooth, with no additional execution privileges needed.
That is Google’s severity assessment, not evidence that attackers were exploiting the issue. Google notes that its severity ratings assume platform and service mitigations are disabled for development or have been successfully bypassed. The bulletin does not establish that these vulnerabilities were being exploited in the wild.
The tables use several vulnerability categories: RCE means remote code execution, EoP means elevation of privilege, ID means information disclosure, and DoS means denial of service. The bulletin’s “over 75” headline wording is not independently confirmed as an exact aggregate here; a total would depend on which tables and device-specific bulletins are counted.

What the 2022-12-05 security patch level means
Google published two Android security patch levels for December: 2022-12-01 and 2022-12-05. The earlier level let partners deliver a subset of the fixes; it does not represent the full set associated with the later level.
Google says a device with security patch level 2022-12-05 or later addresses the issues associated with that level and all previous patch levels. The date is a coverage marker, not a promise that every Android phone received an update on December 5.

How to check whether your phone has the update
- Find the patch date. Open your phone’s Settings and look for the Android security patch level in the software or security information. Menu labels and paths vary by manufacturer and Android version.
- Compare the date. A displayed level of 2022-12-05 or later corresponds to the later December bulletin level; 2022-12-01 corresponds to the earlier subset.
- Check your device maker’s update information. Manufacturers determine availability and rollout schedules for their supported models. Consult the manufacturer’s support or update notices to establish whether your particular phone was eligible and when the update was released.
The Android-wide bulletin explains the fixes and patch-level meaning, but it cannot confirm the release date or availability for every model. For a useful status check, compare the displayed patch date with the maker’s information for your exact device.
How the Android bulletin differs from the Pixel bulletin
The Android Security Bulletin covers Android platform issues. Google published a separate December 2022 Pixel Update Bulletin that includes additional issues affecting supported Google devices. Google says a Pixel security patch level of 2022-12-05 or later covers both the Pixel bulletin and the Android bulletin. A Pixel bulletin therefore is not interchangeable with the Android-wide bulletin.

Why Google Play system updates are separate
Devices running Android 10 or later may receive Google Play system updates in addition to security updates. Their availability does not guarantee that a particular manufacturer firmware patch has been installed. Check the displayed security patch level and the phone maker’s update information rather than treating a Play system update as proof of the December firmware fixes.
Google also says Android platform improvements can make exploitation harder, and Google Play Protect monitors for abuse and warns about potentially harmful applications. Play Protect is enabled by default on devices with Google Mobile Services and is particularly relevant when installing apps from outside Google Play. It is an additional safeguard, not a replacement for installing available system updates.

Publication and bulletin history
Google’s bulletin says Android partners are notified of issues at least a month before publication. Google said source patches would be released to AOSP within 48 hours, then updated the bulletin on December 7, 2022, with AOSP links. Its version history also records a revised CVE table on December 7 and a further revision on March 21, 2023. These are bulletin publication and revision dates, not device rollout dates.
