Yes. Espressif documents an ESP32-S3 deployment of TensorFlow Lite Micro’s Micro Speech example, which listens for the two keywords “yes” and “no.” It is a compact on-device keyword demonstration—not general speech recognition or a configurable wake-word system. For a separate wake-phrase-and-command approach, Espressif offers ESP-SR, which includes WakeNet and MultiNet.
What the TFLM Micro Speech example does
The upstream Micro Speech example has two main stages: audio preprocessing converts raw samples into spectrogram features, and a small model uses those features to return category probabilities. The model recognizes only “yes” and “no”; Espressif describes it as a 20 kB model, while TensorFlow’s example describes the model as less than 20 kB. Those figures describe the example model, not the complete firmware or total device memory requirement.
Espressif’s integration documentation lists the ESP32-S3-DevKitC as a tested device and provides deployment instructions using ESP-IDF. It also names ESP32-DevKitC and ESP-EYE. Its README’s test note refers to ESP-IDF release/v4.2 and release/v4.4; that is the documented test history, not a current compatibility recommendation. Follow the example’s instructions for your selected board and verify its microphone and audio path rather than assuming every ESP32-S3 development board is ready for audio input.
How this differs from a wake-word system
Recognizing “yes” and “no” demonstrates small-vocabulary keyword inference. It does not establish that the model can detect an arbitrary wake phrase, transcribe speech, or recognize a broad set of commands. A wake-word system typically looks for a designated phrase in an incoming audio stream; command recognition is a separate capability.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Espressif’s ESP-SR is a distinct voice-solution stack, not another name for the TFLM Micro Speech example. Its documented components include an Audio Front-end (AFE), WakeNet for wake-word detection, and MultiNet for command recognition. In the ESP-SR Getting Started example, the device wakes on “Hi ESP” and then listens for English commands. If no command follows within a period of time, command listening stops and another wake phrase is needed.
ESP-SR and WakeNet on ESP32-S3
Espressif’s current WakeNet documentation identifies WakeNet9 and WakeNet9l as supporting ESP32-S3 and says WakeNet supports up to five wake words. It describes 16 kHz, mono, signed 16-bit audio, with 30 ms window and step sizes. The documentation also describes MFCC features and smoothing recognition values across multiple frames, triggering only when the smoothed value passes a threshold. These are vendor-documented design and capability details, not independent evidence of real-world accuracy.

For ESP-SR’s Getting Started example, Espressif recommends the ESP32-S3-Korvo-1 or Korvo-2 audio development boards. Board choice matters because audio capture hardware and configuration are part of a working voice system.
Which approach fits your project?
| Consideration | TFLM Micro Speech | Espressif ESP-SR |
|---|---|---|
| Documented purpose | Demonstrates recognition of “yes” and “no.” | Combines WakeNet wake-word detection with MultiNet command recognition. |
| Documented audio/model detail | Preprocessing turns audio into spectrogram features for the small keyword model. | WakeNet documentation describes MFCC features and threshold smoothing across frames. |
| ESP32-S3 evidence | ESP32-S3-DevKitC is listed as tested for the example. | WakeNet9/9l list ESP32-S3 support; the guide recommends Korvo-1 or Korvo-2. |
| Best fit based on the cited documentation | Reproducing a compact two-keyword TFLM demonstration. | Exploring Espressif’s integrated wake-word and command-recognition components. |
| Published comparable performance figures | No current ESP32-S3 latency, memory, power, or accuracy result is stated in the cited documentation. | No comparable end-to-end ESP32-S3 measurement is stated in the cited documentation. |
What the documentation does—and does not—establish
The cited materials establish that Espressif documents an ESP32-S3 target for the TFLM example and that ESP-SR documents ESP32-S3 support for WakeNet9/9l. They do not provide a measured latency, complete RAM or flash footprint, power consumption, privacy guarantee, or field-accuracy result for a current ESP32-S3 build. Those outcomes depend on the specific board, model, firmware, toolchain, audio setup, and test conditions; they should be measured for the intended application rather than inferred from chip or example support.
