Chrome’s ERR_CACHE_MISS message means the page needs information you entered earlier to be submitted again. It does not, by itself, mean your computer is broken or that clearing the cache will fix the problem. Check the address and reload once, then use the steps below to narrow down whether the issue is with one page, your browser, or your connection.
What ERR_CACHE_MISS means—and what to check before resubmitting
Google Chrome Help describes the message this way: “The page needs information you entered earlier to be submitted again.” Google’s explanation of common Chrome error messages does not identify the cause of a particular occurrence or say how a specific website will handle another submission.
If the page involved a payment, order, booking, or other important form, check whether it already went through before submitting again. If you cannot confirm its status, contact the site rather than risk sending the information twice.
Start with the address, reload, and scope of the problem
- Verify the web address. Make sure the URL is correct, then use Chrome’s Reload control once. Google recommends checking the address and reloading when a page will not load. Chrome loading-error troubleshooting
- Try another website. If several sites fail, check that your internet connection is working. If other sites open normally and only one page fails, focus on that page or its website rather than assuming the whole computer is at fault. Google’s troubleshooting guidance
Use Incognito to check whether your usual Chrome profile is involved
Open an Incognito window and try the affected page there. Google includes this as a general page-loading check. If the page works in Incognito, that is a clue to investigate your normal profile’s extensions or stored site data; it does not prove which one caused the error. Chrome loading-error troubleshooting

Review extensions, tabs, and available memory
If the issue persists, close tabs and apps you do not need, then try the page again. Google also recommends removing unnecessary Chrome extensions as part of general loading-error troubleshooting. If you use extensions, review them and temporarily disable likely candidates, then reload the page to see whether anything changes. These checks are diagnostic; they are not a guaranteed ERR_CACHE_MISS fix. Google’s page-loading steps
Clear cookies and cached files only if needed
If the problem appears limited to your regular Chrome profile, clearing relevant browsing data is another troubleshooting step. Google’s general loading-error instructions include cookies and site data, as well as cached images and files; they do not promise that deleting this data will resolve every ERR_CACHE_MISS. Cookies can keep you signed in or store site preferences, so deleting them may sign you out or remove those preferences. Cached files are saved parts of pages that Chrome can reuse. Google’s explanation of cookies and site data
In Chrome, open the menu and go to Delete browsing data. Choose the relevant time range and select cookies/site data and cached images/files, then confirm. The exact labels may vary as Chrome changes. If you do not want to affect saved sign-ins or preferences, avoid deleting cookies unless you are prepared to sign in again and restore site settings.

If it still fails, choose the next step by how many pages are affected
- Several websites fail: check your internet connection and continue with broader browser or device troubleshooting, such as closing resource-heavy apps and tabs.
- Only one website fails: if the address is correct and browser checks do not help, contact the site owner. The failure may depend on that page or how the site handles the form state; the error message alone cannot establish the cause. Google’s page-loading guidance
Reset Chrome settings as a later option
Resetting Chrome settings is more disruptive than trying Incognito or clearing selected browsing data, so reserve it for persistent browser-wide problems. A reset changes settings, including cookies/site data and extensions. Google says bookmarks and passwords are not deleted or changed by this reset. Reset Chrome settings to default
