Google Home also supports household broadcasts. These features are platform-specific, and the exact options depend on your device, app, account, and region.
1. Use routines to combine repeated actions
Routines let you trigger multiple actions with one spoken command or, where supported, an event such as a time of day. For example, a “good morning” routine might turn on a compatible light and play a briefing. Check the current app for the actions and triggers available to your devices.
Google Home routines
Google says routines can combine actions such as compatible lighting, weather, calendar events, and news. You can create them in the Google Home app; which triggers and actions are available depends on the device and setup. Google cautions: “Routines are for convenience only, not safety- or security-critical use cases.” Google Assistant Help: Set up and manage Google Assistant Routines.
Alexa routines
In the Alexa app, create a routine by choosing an event and one or more actions. Depending on your app and devices, actions may include controlling smart-home devices, playing music, or providing weather updates. Alexa supports different trigger types, including time, voice, sound, and presence, but availability varies. See Amazon’s Alexa routines guide and its trigger and action information.

2. Add a compatible light or smart plug
A compatible bulb can make voice control and routines useful for everyday lighting. A smart plug can extend them to an appliance that is suitable for switched power. Before buying anything, check the exact product listing for compatibility with your Echo or Google Home device, any hub requirements, and availability in your region. The cited support pages do not verify particular plug or bulb models.
Google Home can control compatible connected devices, including lights, thermostats, and media devices. Device setup and continued operation depend on the manufacturer’s service and connection; Google notes that a service change can stop a previously connected cloud device from working. Its guidance covers connecting third-party devices and Matter Multi-Admin.

Alexa routines can turn compatible smart-home devices on or off and dim compatible lights. A Matter smart plug is one possible category to consider, not a guarantee of compatibility: confirm that the specific plug and your Echo setup support the connection you intend to use. See Amazon’s routine guidance and Google’s Matter setup information.
3. Personalize a shared Google Home with Voice Match
On supported Google devices, Voice Match can recognize a household member’s voice and provide personal results. Google says up to six people can use Voice Match in one home. Results and setup depend on device support, language, linked account, and settings; you can configure it in the Google Home app. Review which devices and personal results are enabled before using it on shared speakers. 4. Play audio across rooms with platform-specific groups
Both ecosystems offer multi-device audio, but Google speaker groups and Alexa Multi-Room Music are separate systems. A group created in one platform does not establish interoperability with the other.

5. Send a household announcement with Google broadcast
Google broadcast sends a message to other supported Google Nest or Home speakers and displays, which can be handy for a household announcement. It is a Google Home feature, not an Echo feature.

Google’s documented setup requires at least two compatible speakers or displays on the same Wi-Fi, household members signed in, Do Not Disturb and Downtime turned off, and firmware meeting the minimum listed on its help page. Digital Wellbeing settings can also restrict the feature, so check those settings if broadcasts do not reach a device. Google Assistant Help: Broadcast messages in your home.
