These nine Python birthday programs progress from a one-line greeting to a simple turtle-drawn card. The first eight print text in the console and need no graphics package; the last opens a drawing window. Each example includes its matching output so you can see what to expect.
1. Print a basic birthday greeting
print("Happy birthday!")
Output:
Happy birthday!
This is the simplest version: print() displays fixed text in the console.
2. Add a name to the greeting
name = "Maya"
print(f"Happy birthday, {name}!")
Output:
Happy birthday, Maya!
The f-string inserts the value stored in name into the message. Change Maya to personalize it.
3. Ask for a name and age
name = input("Enter the birthday person's name: ")
age = input("How old are they turning? ")
print(f"Happy birthday, {name}! Have a wonderful {age}th birthday!")
Sample input: enter Maya at the first prompt and 12 at the second.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Output after those responses:
Enter the birthday person's name: Maya
How old are they turning? 12
Happy birthday, Maya! Have a wonderful 12th birthday!
input() reads what the user types. The age is kept as text here, which is sufficient for displaying it.
4. Use a function for a reusable greeting
def birthday_message(name):
print(f"Happy birthday, {name}!")
print("Wishing you a day full of fun.")
birthday_message("Maya")
Output:
Happy birthday, Maya!
Wishing you a day full of fun.
A function groups instructions under a name so you can reuse them. Python’s beginner tutorial also uses a birthday song example to introduce functions: Python Tutorial: Defining Functions.

5. Repeat a birthday wish with a loop
for _ in range(3):
print("Happy birthday!")
Output:
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday!
The loop runs three times, printing the same line each time.
6. Format a greeting with separators
name = "Maya"
age = 12
print("=" * 28)
print(f"Happy birthday, {name}!")
print(f"You are now {age} years old.")
print("=" * 28)
Output:
============================
Happy birthday, Maya!
You are now 12 years old.
============================
Multiplying a string repeats it; f-strings make the name and number easy to place in the message.

7. Print a multiline birthday message
message = """Happy birthday, Maya!
May your year bring new adventures
and plenty of reasons to smile."""
print(message)
Output:
Happy birthday, Maya!
May your year bring new adventures
and plenty of reasons to smile.
Triple quotes let a string span multiple lines, which is convenient for a longer card message.
8. Make a text-art birthday card
print("+--------------------------+")
print("| HAPPY BIRTHDAY! |")
print("| Maya, enjoy! |")
print("+--------------------------+")
Output:
+--------------------------+
| HAPPY BIRTHDAY! |
| Maya, enjoy! |
+--------------------------+
This is still ordinary console text; the characters form a simple card shape.

9. Draw a birthday card with turtle
For a graphical version, Python’s standard-library turtle module draws in a window using movement and turning commands. The Python 3.14 documentation describes turtle as giving learners “instant, visible feedback.” Unlike the console programs above, turtle depends on Tk interface support in the Python installation.
import turtle as t
screen = t.Screen()
screen.title("Birthday Card")
pen = t.Turtle()
pen.hideturtle()
pen.speed(3)
pen.penup()
pen.goto(-120, 30)
pen.pendown()
pen.write("Happy Birthday!", font=("Arial", 18, "bold"))
pen.penup()
pen.goto(-70, -10)
pen.pendown()
pen.write("Have a wonderful day!", font=("Arial", 12, "normal"))
screen.mainloop()
Output: a window titled Birthday Card containing “Happy Birthday!” and “Have a wonderful day!” as drawn text. The exact appearance depends on the platform’s available fonts.

- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
The final screen.mainloop() keeps the drawing window open until you close it. The Python 3.14 turtle documentation explains the event loop and notes that turtle relies on Tk; if importing it reports that _tkinter is missing, check your Python distributor’s Tk package. Do not install a package named turtle by default: the module is in the standard library, while Tk support varies by platform. Importing it as turtle or turtle as t also avoids the namespace-conflict risks of from turtle import *.
Which birthday program should you choose?
- For the quickest greeting: use program 1 or 2.
- To customize it while the program runs: use program 3.
- To practice reusable code or repetition: try programs 4 or 5.
- For a console card: use program 7 or 8.
- For a drawn card: use program 9 if your Python installation supports Tk.
Python.org lists Python 3.14.8, released September 30, 2026, in its downloads index. The console examples use basic Python syntax; the turtle setup caveat is about platform GUI support rather than a special birthday-program version requirement.
