Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →A license-plate capture by a Flock camera does not, by itself, mean you are suspected of wrongdoing. If you want to know what was recorded or how long it will be kept, contact the organization responsible for that camera. Note the location and approximate time, then ask for its privacy policy and process for access or deletion requests.
What a Flock camera may record
Flock Safety says its license plate reader (LPR) data can include more than a plate number: a plate image, an image of the vehicle, characteristics such as color and make, the plate number and state, the date and time, and the camera’s location. The specific data associated with a capture depends on the installation and applicable policy. See Flock’s License Plate Reader Policy.
Who to contact
Start with the camera’s operator or customer, rather than assuming Flock handles individual requests. Flock says customers own their data and designate administrators and authorized end users who control access. Depending on where the camera is, the operator may be a local police department or another public agency, a homeowners association, a property manager, or another organization. Flock describes customer-controlled roles and logged searches in its Trust Center.
What to do next
- Record the details. Note the camera’s location and the approximate date and time of the suspected capture. Describe what happened neutrally; avoid assuming the camera identified you or that a capture indicates suspicion.
- Identify the operator. Check any nearby camera notices or contact the organization responsible for the location, such as the relevant property manager, homeowners association, or local agency.
- Ask for the rules that apply to that camera. Request the written policy or form, and ask what data was captured, how long it is retained, whether it is shared, and how to submit an access, privacy, or deletion request. The vendor’s policies do not establish a universal consumer complaint form.
- If it is a residential community system, ask about Safe List. Flock describes a Safe List feature for some participating residential-community systems. Ask the community manager whether it is available and whether it applies to your vehicle; it is not a general opt-out for every Flock camera. Flock’s FAQ describes the feature and directs existing customers to contact Flock support for details.
- If an alert or enforcement action is involved, preserve the details. Contact the responsible agency and ask it to review the relevant record. For possible legal consequences, consult a qualified local attorney or legal aid organization; applicable rights and procedures vary by jurisdiction.
How long is the plate data kept?
Flock’s License Plate Reader Policy, last updated June 30, 2026, states that data is deleted on a rolling seven-day basis by default. Its Evidence Policy, last updated August 12, 2026, describes seven calendar days as the standard retention period. Neither statement guarantees that every camera follows that schedule: Flock says a customer’s law, policy, or agreement may require a different period. The Evidence Policy also says retention may be extended for up to one year if the customer obtains the specified approval from elected officials or its governing body. Ask the camera operator for the schedule governing that installation and for the date relevant data is expected to be deleted. See the License Plate Reader Policy and Evidence Policy.

If the plate appears to have been misread
Flock’s License Plate Reader Policy notes that plate translation can be incomplete or inaccurate. Davis Lukens, Flock Safety’s Chief Technology Officer and the policy’s named custodian, states: “Users should confirm the computer translation prior to taking any action based on an LPR alert or search.” If a notice, stop, or other action relies on a suspected misread, write down the details and ask the responsible agency to verify the original record rather than relying only on the translated plate text.
