SAS Analytics Pro is a programming-focused analytics environment that SAS announced for both on-site use and containerized deployment. SAS described that version as an entry point into SAS Viya, not as the complete Viya platform.
What is SAS Analytics Pro?
SAS Analytics Pro packages core SAS tools for data scientists and SAS programmers who need to access, manipulate, analyze and present information. SAS describes its components as Base SAS, SAS Studio, SAS/GRAPH and SAS/STAT. The browser-based SAS Studio interface is where users write and run SAS code.
SAS announced the on-site and containerized deployment options on September 10, 2021, in a post by Mike Gilliland on the SAS Users blog. The date matters: the announcement describes what SAS introduced then, not a guarantee about current versions, license terms or supported configurations.
What comes with the cloud-ready version?
SAS says the cloud-ready, containerized version adds the SAS/ACCESS set of products to the core Analytics Pro components. Its product support page says SAS/ACCESS engines for 20+ popular data sources are included automatically with that cloud-ready version. Connector availability can vary by product release, so check the current SAS documentation for the exact sources supported by the version you intend to use.

What does “entry point into SAS Viya” mean?
SAS used “entry point into SAS Viya” to position the containerized Analytics Pro offering. That wording should not be read as saying Analytics Pro supplies every capability of the full SAS Viya server platform. SAS’s 2022 installation article also distinguishes Analytics Pro on Viya from the earlier Analytics Pro on 9.4 offering; they are not interchangeable labels for one unchanged deployment.
The older article’s details about hardware compatibility or release cadence are historical. For a deployment decision, consult current SAS documentation for the specific version rather than treating those older statements as current requirements.
