Three strong starting points for data-mining research are ACM SIGKDD’s KDD, IEEE’s International Conference on Data Mining (ICDM), and SIAM’s International Conference on Data Mining (SDM). Their organizers describe relevant but distinct scopes; the available official information does not support an objective ranking among them. Choose by subject fit, track, publication model, schedule, and practical attendance needs.

How to compare data mining conferences

“Top” is best understood here as a shortlist of established venues relevant to data-mining research, not a ranked league table. The official descriptions below establish each conference’s scope and some edition details, but they do not provide comparable current acceptance rates or attendance figures. Those measures therefore cannot support a fair ranking.

For a submission decision, compare your paper with the current edition’s call for papers and relevant track. Also check the proceedings and review model, submission calendar, location, and whether attending is practical for you. The conference descriptions are organizer statements, not independent quality ratings.

Three major conferences to consider

ACM SIGKDD Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (KDD)

ACM SIGKDD describes KDD as an annual international forum for data-mining researchers and practitioners from academia, industry, and government. That broad audience makes it a useful starting point for work connecting research and practice across data mining and data science. The 2026 edition was the 32nd ACM SIGKDD Conference, scheduled for August 9–13 in Jeju, Korea; those dates have passed as of October 4, 2026. See the official KDD 2026 page and ACM’s proceedings records.

IEEE International Conference on Data Mining (ICDM)

ICDM’s stated scope spans data-mining algorithms, software, systems, and applications. The 2026 conference page also describes a new applied track for deployed systems, interdisciplinary applications, new datasets, and comprehensive experimental analyses. This breadth may suit work that bridges core methods and real-world application, but use the current call for papers to check which track best fits a specific paper. The available official information here does not establish ICDM 2026 dates, venue, or deadlines, so consult the official ICDM page for current logistics.

SIAM International Conference on Data Mining (SDM)

SIAM invites original research on data-mining algorithms and their applications. It describes SDM as including peer-reviewed presentations, workshops, tutorials, and archival proceedings available on the SIAM website. This makes SDM relevant to algorithmic work and applications, including research with mathematical, statistical, or high-performance computing emphasis. SDM26 was listed for November 19–20, 2026, in Salt Lake City, Utah. SIAM listed October 19, 2026, as the early-registration deadline; check the SDM26 page for registration and program status.

Conference Organizer-stated focus Edition details established here Potential fit
ACM SIGKDD Conference (KDD) Forum for data-mining researchers and practitioners from academia, industry, and government. 32nd conference; August 9–13, 2026, Jeju, Korea. Dates have passed. Research and practice across data mining and data science.
IEEE International Conference on Data Mining (ICDM) Algorithms, software, systems, and applications; 2026 page describes a new applied track. Dates, venue, and deadlines are not established here; consult the official edition page. Work spanning methods, systems, deployed applications, and interdisciplinary research.
SIAM International Conference on Data Mining (SDM) Original research on data-mining algorithms and applications; peer-reviewed presentations and archival proceedings. November 19–20, 2026, Salt Lake City, Utah; October 19 early-registration deadline listed by SIAM. Algorithmic and applied research, including mathematically or computationally oriented work.

Which conference should you submit to?

  1. Start with the paper, not the conference label. Match its central contribution to the organizer’s stated scope and the current call for papers. For an applied contribution, check ICDM’s applied-track requirements; for an algorithm-focused paper, review SDM’s call; for research aimed at a broad academic, industry, and government audience, examine KDD’s tracks.
  2. Check the actual publication and review arrangements. SDM states that its proceedings are published in archival form. For KDD and ICDM, verify the current edition’s proceedings and submission details rather than assuming they are identical across years.
  3. Confirm the calendar and logistics. Deadlines, locations, registration, and program details change by edition. KDD 2026 has concluded; SDM26 was still upcoming on October 4, 2026, and ICDM’s schedule should be confirmed directly with its organizers.
  4. Choose based on fit, not an unsupported prestige ranking. The official pages reviewed do not provide comparable current acceptance or attendance statistics for all three venues, so those numbers cannot settle the choice.
