For example, ax.set_ylim(0, 100) displays values from 0 to 100; choose limits that fit your data and chart.
Set both y-axis limits
The object-oriented method Axes.set_ylim(bottom, top) sets the displayed y-axis view limits in data coordinates. Create or obtain the Axes, plot the bars, then set the range:

fig, ax = plt.subplots()
ax.bar(["A", "B", "C"], [25, 60, 85])
ax.set_ylim(0, 100)
plt.show()Here, 0 and 100 are example bounds, not recommended values for every chart. The method returns the new pair of limits. See the Matplotlib Axes.set_ylim API.
Set only one limit or use pyplot
Change just the upper or lower bound
Use a keyword argument to change one bound while leaving the other unchanged. Passing None for a bound has the same effect:

ax.set_ylim(top=80)
# Equivalent: ax.set_ylim(bottom=None, top=80)The same pattern works for the lower bound with bottom=....
Use pyplot’s current-Axes interface
If your code uses pyplot rather than retaining an Axes variable, plt.ylim(bottom, top) sets the limits on the current Axes:

plt.bar(["A", "B", "C"], [25, 60, 85])
plt.ylim(0, 100)Calling plt.ylim() without arguments returns the current limits. The equivalent object-oriented getter is ax.get_ylim(). See the Matplotlib pyplot.ylim API and Axes.get_ylim API.
Choose the right interface for your chart

Both methods set the view range. Prefer ax.set_ylim() when the figure has multiple Axes, because it makes the target chart explicit.

Understand the effect on autoscaling
Matplotlib normally derives displayed limits from the data limits and applies margins; its autoscaling guide documents a default margin of 5%. Setting limits manually fixes the displayed view and turns off y-axis autoscaling by default. As a result, adding bars or other artists later may not expand the view to include them.
If you want the Axes to fit its data again, use the relevant autoscaling method, such as ax.autoscale() or ax.autoscale_view(), depending on the Axes state. Matplotlib describes manual limits as a way to prevent automatic limit updates in its Axis autoscaling guide.

Reverse the y-axis when needed
Limits do not have to be in ascending numeric order. Setting the bottom bound higher than the top reverses the axis, so values decrease from bottom to top:
ax.set_ylim(100, 0)Use this only when an inverted y-axis is intentional; the usual upward-increasing orientation uses the smaller value first.

Check the range currently displayed
To inspect the limits after setting them, use ax.get_ylim() for a specific Axes or plt.ylim() for the current pyplot Axes. The returned pair lets you verify the actual displayed range.
