A January 2026 report says the official conversion page was returning a 404 afterward, so the official conversion window appears to have ended. The current page response was not independently verified. If you already converted the controller, you can still pair it with a compatible device; USB-C wired use remains possible whether or not Bluetooth was enabled.
Can you still unlock Bluetooth on a Stadia Controller?
Google’s official conversion tool was available through December 31, 2025, according to the later of the dates Google published. A January 2026 report says the page was returning a 404 after that deadline. That means there is no confirmed working official conversion route now; the page’s current HTTP response has not been independently tested.
Google’s support article still shows an earlier December 31, 2024 deadline, while its controller mode page search result gave December 31, 2025. The later date is the best guide to the final stated availability window. See Google’s controller mode page and its connection instructions. The January 2026 report describes the page’s post-deadline 404.
Community flashing tools have appeared online, but their present availability, reliability, and safety have not been established here. Do not treat an unofficial tool as Google-supported or assume it is safe to run.

What Google’s Bluetooth conversion involved
When Google’s official tool was available, it installed a firmware change through a web browser. The process required the controller, a USB cable, and a computer running Chrome 108 or later:
- Hold the Stadia button until the controller’s status light turns on.
- Connect the controller to the computer using a USB cable.
- In Chrome 108 or later, open stadia.google.com/controller.
- Follow the instructions shown by the browser tool.
Those steps explain the former official process; they do not restore access to an expired tool. A USB-C cable can still be used for a wired connection, but buying a cable cannot bring back Google’s conversion service.

Understand the permanent change before converting
Google says enabling Bluetooth permanently disables the controller’s Stadia Wi-Fi connectivity features, and the change cannot be reversed. Conversion is therefore not simply a switch you can toggle back later. Wired USB-C use remains possible with either firmware mode.
The controller uses Bluetooth Low Energy 4.2. Google says its focused compatibility testing covered Windows 10 and 11 with Steam, macOS 13 with Steam, ChromeOS, and Android. Compatibility can vary: Google did not substantially test every platform or service, and vibration may not work with all hardware configurations. A computer also needs a Bluetooth Low Energy adapter. Pair a controller that is already in Bluetooth mode
- On the Stadia Controller, hold Stadia and Y together for two seconds. The status light should blink orange to indicate pairing mode.
- Open Bluetooth settings on the computer, phone, or other device and choose the Stadia controller from the available devices.
- When connected, the status light should be solid white.
If the controller does not appear, confirm that the receiving computer has a Bluetooth Low Energy adapter and that the controller is in pairing mode. For other combinations of operating system, game, and service, compatibility is not guaranteed by Google’s focused testing.
Know what works—and what does not—over Bluetooth
- Headphones: The controller’s 3.5 mm headset jack does not work over Bluetooth. Connect headphones to the paired device instead, or use the controller over USB.
- Assistant and Capture buttons: Google says these no longer launch Google Assistant or capture gameplay after Stadia shut down.
- Second controller: Tandem Mode can connect a second controller when the Stadia Controller is connected wirelessly.
- Status light: Blinking orange means Bluetooth pairing mode; solid white means the controller is on and connected.

Troubleshoot an unresponsive Stadia Controller
If the controller is unresponsive, Google recommends starting with a charge, then trying its recovery procedure. A factory reset is a separate step and requires pairing again afterward.
Charge and restart it
- Charge the controller for 30 minutes using a functional charger and USB-C cable.
- With the controller off, hold Y, then press and hold Stadia for 10 seconds.
- Release the buttons, then hold Stadia for two seconds or connect the controller to power.
Factory-reset only if needed
Hold Assistant and Capture together for six seconds to factory-reset the controller. After the reset, pair it with the device again. Google’s instructions are on its controller troubleshooting page.
