For a Tkinter date-and-time input, choose separate controls for each job: tkcalendar.DateEntry provides a drop-down calendar for dates, while Tkinter’s built-in Spinbox can collect hours and minutes. If you want a prebuilt time-picker interface, the third-party tkTimePicker project documents clock and spin-style widgets. The right combination depends on the interaction and formatting your app needs.

These controls do not form a single bundled date-and-time widget. A common arrangement is a DateEntry beside hour and minute spinboxes. Use tkTimePicker instead when its documented visual time-selection styles better suit the interface.
Use tkcalendar DateEntry to select a date
DateEntry behaves like a themed entry field with a calendar that drops down when the user opens it. The package supports locale and calendar options, and you can set a date display pattern rather than assuming the displayed string will use a particular format. Consult the DateEntry API and the tkcalendar documentation for the options supported by the package.
- Use
get_date()when application logic needs adatetime.dateobject. This avoids parsing the display text yourself. - Use
set_date()to assign a date from your application. - Bind to
<<DateEntrySelected>>when code should react to a date chosen from the calendar. - If a user types invalid text, the documentation says it is reset to the last valid date when the field loses focus.

Build hour and minute fields with Spinbox
Tkinter includes Spinbox, so a basic time input does not require an additional package. A spinbox can use a numeric range or an explicit list of values, and users can edit the field as well as step through choices with its arrows. The classic tkinter.Spinbox and themed ttk.Spinbox have different APIs and styling options; use the official Python reference when choosing options for the specific widget.
For a two-field time, configure one control for the hours and another for the minutes. Decide whether the interface uses a 12- or 24-hour clock, what minute increments are allowed, and how values should be displayed. Spinbox supplies the controls, but your application must validate and combine their values into the representation it uses for time.

Use tkTimePicker for a clock or spin-style control
The tkTimePicker project describes three visual choices: a clock picker, an old-spin picker, and a modern-spin picker. Its documentation includes installation instructions and an example using AnalogPicker. The project page shows the documented installation command as pip install tkTimePicker; its example reads the selected value with time_picker.time() after the user confirms the selection. Treat these as the project’s documented API, and check its current package page before relying on a particular release or compatibility level.
Choose this route when a prebuilt time-picker presentation matters more than keeping the time fields to Tkinter’s built-in controls. The available documentation describes the picker classes, but does not establish a comprehensive Python or Tk compatibility matrix.

Plan for formatting, styling, and packaging
Date display and ttk styling
Set the date pattern and locale deliberately so the visible date matches the conventions your users expect. For DateEntry styling, configure a ttk style and check the active ttk theme if the changes do not appear as expected; theme behavior is covered in the tkcalendar how-to guide.
Dependencies and bundled applications
The tkcalendar PyPI listing names Tkinter and Babel as requirements. If you package an app with PyInstaller, tkcalendar’s documentation describes adding babel.numbers as a hidden import. Review the tkcalendar package listing and the project’s packaging guidance for the versions and bundling setup you use. The documentation cited here does not establish that a particular package release is the latest available.
