Customizable frameworks leave more control—and more interface, document, and edge-case work—in your hands. More packaged editors can provide a quicker route to common authoring features, but may bring licensing and plan decisions.
Which is the best React rich text editor?
There is no universal best. The right fit depends on your document model, required authoring workflows, appetite for custom UI work, collaboration needs, and licensing constraints. A comparison updated July 23, 2026, places Lexical, Slate, TipTap, Quill, CKEditor, TinyMCE, and Editor.js among the options, but a feature checklist alone cannot tell you which will fit your product (Contentful’s comparison).
Think in terms of ownership. Frameworks and headless approaches can give your team substantial control over the editing experience, while also requiring it to assemble and maintain more of that experience. A more packaged editor may cover more common authoring needs out of the box, but can make commercial terms and feature availability important parts of the decision.
What should I compare before choosing a React rich text editor?
- UI ownership: Decide how much finished interface you need versus how much toolbar, menu, dialog, and interaction behavior you are prepared to implement.
- Document model and output: Check how the editor represents documents and whether its serialization fits your storage, import, export, and rendering needs.
- Required content: List the formatting, tables, media, embeds, code blocks, and custom content your users actually need. Verify each capability in the version and configuration you plan to ship.
- Collaboration and persistence: Determine whether simultaneous editing is required, what collaboration integration or service it depends on, and how edits will be persisted.
- Maintenance and migration: Review project maturity, release activity, API stability, and the work needed to migrate stored documents or custom extensions.
- Licensing and deployment: Confirm whether you will self-host or use a hosted service, which license applies, and whether required capabilities are included in your intended plan.
- Accessibility: Look for documented conformance evidence, then test the complete configured editor—including custom controls—in your application and assistive-technology workflows.
What is the difference between Lexical and TipTap?
Lexical
Lexical is documented as an extensible editor framework with a framework-agnostic core and official React bindings. Its documentation describes plugin-based extension, an immutable state model, Yjs collaboration integration, and JSON, Markdown, and HTML serialization. It also lists rich-content capabilities such as tables, lists, code blocks, images, and custom nodes (Lexical documentation).
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
These are documented capabilities, not a guarantee that every feature is enabled in your installation or that a particular configuration meets your needs. Check the installed version, required plugins, serialization behavior, and accessibility of your integrated experience.
TipTap
A July 23, 2026 Contentful comparison characterizes TipTap as a headless, ProseMirror-based editor that gives teams control over UI. That makes it relevant to teams willing to build more of the authoring interface themselves. The comparison is secondary evidence; verify current behavior, compatibility, licensing, and any hosted-service requirements in TipTap’s own documentation before deciding (Contentful’s comparison).

Beta status is a project risk to assess, not an automatic reason to reject Slate. Review current release activity, test the APIs your implementation would depend on, and estimate how API changes or document migrations would affect your team.
