The OnePlus 12 is a compelling older flagship if you want a sharp, bright display, fast performance, long battery life and speedy wired and wireless charging. Its main drawbacks are limited water resistance, cameras reviewers found inconsistent in some situations, and a software-support commitment that is shorter than some rivals. Whether it is worth buying now depends on your local price, availability and the phone’s current update status.

What reviewers liked
Bright, sharp display
Android Authority praised the screen’s brightness and sharpness. Tom’s Guide also highlighted the larger display. That makes the phone a strong fit for people who prioritize a spacious screen for video, reading or everyday use.

Fast performance and charging
Android Authority praised performance and charging speed, while WIRED described a responsive experience and reported that the phone stayed relatively cool during its Genshin Impact test. Tom’s Guide pointed to the Snapdragon chipset and the return of wireless charging. These are reviewers’ observations, not a guarantee of identical results for every user.
Battery life
WIRED reported strong battery life in its own use. Actual endurance will depend on settings, signal conditions, workload and battery age.

Where the OnePlus 12 falls short
Camera reliability varies
Android Authority found the cameras hit-or-miss in low light, and The Guardian was more critical of camera performance compared with rivals. The hardware includes a 3x periscope telephoto lens, but the presence of a dedicated zoom camera does not by itself establish that its results are consistently better than competing phones.
Limited water resistance
Reviewers characterize the phone’s water resistance as limited or spray-resistant, not as protection that makes the device waterproof. Treat it cautiously around water and check the applicable warranty terms rather than relying on it to survive immersion.

Wireless charging at the advertised top speed
WIRED noted that fast wireless charging required OnePlus’s own wireless charger. If reaching the advertised 50W AIRVOOC rate matters to you, account for the need for the company’s compatible charger; ordinary wireless chargers may not deliver that maximum speed.
Software support and buying it in 2026
Android Authority and WIRED report OnePlus’s launch commitment as four Android OS upgrades and five years of security updates. That is the announced support term, not confirmation of which update is currently available for a particular device or region.

The company said existing devices would continue to receive software updates, security patches and after-sales support. Its statement does not give a OnePlus 12-specific rollout schedule, so check OnePlus support for your country and exact model before buying.
For context only, Android Authority reported US launch prices of $799 for the 12GB/256GB model and $899 for the 16GB/512GB model, with open sales beginning February 6, 2024. Those are historical launch prices, not a current quote or indication of stock. Who should buy the OnePlus 12?
- Consider it if a large, high-resolution display, quick performance, substantial battery capacity and fast charging matter more to you than having the most dependable low-light camera or the longest support policy.
- Look elsewhere if you need stronger water protection, camera consistency across difficult conditions, or a clearly longer update commitment.
- Check before paying if you are buying in 2026: confirm the current price, stock, seller, exact regional model and update status with the seller and OnePlus support.
Verdict
The OnePlus 12 remains an appealing older flagship for display quality, speed, battery and charging. Its value today is not determined by its 2024 launch price: it depends on what it costs in your market and whether its camera, water-resistance and support compromises suit your priorities.
