Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →An indexed DEV Community account by Daniel Pertu reports that a date entered into a date field became a value with the year 60901, and that the form accepted and submitted it. The report does not establish which browser or operating system was involved, exactly what was entered, or whether the behavior can be reproduced. The useful takeaway is narrower: an HTML date input handles dates in a standardized format, but it cannot decide whether a date makes sense for your application.
What the year 60901 report does—and does not—establish
The indexed account describes a date field producing a year of 60901 and the resulting value passing through a form workflow. The original page was not available for direct verification, so the report is not enough to identify a browser bug, a particular input sequence, or a cause. It also does not show that all date inputs behave this way.
Nor does the reported number alone prove that the value violated HTML’s date format rules. HTML date strings use the proleptic Gregorian calendar and represent years with at least four digits; the format does not impose a four-digit maximum. Dates before year 1 CE are unsupported. Whether a particular input is a valid date therefore depends on the complete submitted value, not only on the surprising year.
What an HTML date input actually provides
An <input type="date"> is a date control, not a guarantee that every entered date is appropriate for a particular task. Its value is normalized as yyyy-mm-dd, even when the browser displays the date in a different, locale-specific form. JavaScript can read that normalized string through HTMLInputElement.value or get a numeric representation with valueAsNumber. The display the user sees is not necessarily the format sent with the form.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The WHATWG HTML Standard defines date parsing and valid date values. Those general rules describe date syntax and representation; they do not encode a product’s own expectations, such as an allowed booking window or a plausible birth date. Treating a syntactically valid value as a domain-valid answer is an application decision, not a protection supplied by the date control.
What browser constraints can and cannot check
The min and max attributes set lower and upper date bounds that participate in browser constraint validation. For example, a form might prevent selecting a date before a start date or after a deadline. The bounds only help when they reflect the actual policy, and client-side checks alone should not be the authority for a submitted value.

| Approach | What it helps with | What it does not establish | Interface and consistency |
|---|---|---|---|
Native date input with min and max |
Provides a browser date control and can constrain dates to configured bounds through constraint validation. | Whether a date is plausible or allowed under rules not encoded in those bounds. | The normalized value is yyyy-mm-dd; the displayed form and control vary by browser and operating system. |
| Application-level validation | Can apply task-specific plausibility and policy rules when the value is processed, including on the server that receives the submission. | Does not automatically provide a date-entry interface or replace correctly configured browser constraints. | Rules can be applied consistently at the processing boundary, independently of the browser’s display. |
These approaches complement one another. The browser can guide entry and catch values outside configured limits; application validation can enforce the rules that matter to the service.
How to prevent implausible dates from entering a workflow
- Define the permitted range. Decide what dates make sense for the actual task, then set matching
minandmaxvalues where appropriate. A generic date field cannot infer those rules. - Inspect the submitted value. Read the normalized date string at the point your application receives it rather than relying on how the control looked on screen.
- Validate at the system boundary. Check that the value is a valid date and satisfies the application’s range and plausibility rules on the server or other authoritative processing layer. Browser validation is useful feedback, not a substitute for this check.
- Explain corrections clearly. If a value is invalid or outside the allowed range, reject it with a message that states what the user should change instead of silently accepting or altering it.
Why the reported value cannot be diagnosed from the year alone
The account does not provide the exact date string, browser and version, operating system, locale, input steps, or implementation code. Without those details, it is not possible to determine whether the year arose in the browser control, application parsing, or another part of the workflow. The report should be treated as an incident account, not proof of a general browser defect or a reproducible failure in HTML date inputs.
