HiFile is a desktop file manager for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Its defining feature is a dual-pane layout: keep two folders visible together to navigate between locations and copy or move files. It also documents archive tools, built-in viewers, folder comparison and synchronization. The currently listed build is 0.9.16.0, and the developer’s official pages give conflicting license information, so check the terms before relying on older claims about a 60-day limit.
What HiFile does
HiFile brings common file-management work into a desktop application with two folder panels. The layout can make transfers easier to follow because the source and destination locations remain visible at once. Product materials describe mouse and keyboard interaction, with an emphasis on keyboard-oriented use.
Documented operations include copying, moving, renaming and deleting files, along with finding, filtering and sorting items. The application also includes image, text and binary viewers, image thumbnails, and tools for comparing and synchronizing folders.
How the two-pane workflow works
Each panel shows a folder location, so you can navigate the two sides independently and use one as the source and the other as the destination for a transfer. This approach suits people who regularly move files between folders or need to inspect two locations side by side. It is a workflow preference, not evidence that HiFile is faster than another file manager.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The project describes a single-pane mode as future work, not a current feature. If you prefer a conventional one-folder-at-a-time view, that planned item should not be mistaken for an available setting.
Archives, viewing and folder tools
Archive browsing and creation
HiFile’s product information says archives can be opened and treated much like folders: users can copy items in and out, rename entries, create folders inside archives, and create new archives. The developer identifies 7-Zip as the underlying archiver. Support can vary by archive format, and documentation indicates some formats are read-only; do not assume every format offers the same editing operations.

Built-in viewers and thumbnails
The integrated viewers handle images, text and binary files. Image thumbnails offer an additional way to browse image collections without opening each file individually.
Comparison, synchronization and search
Folder comparison and synchronization are documented features, with selectable comparison criteria and rules for copying or deleting items. Documentation also describes file search, text search and duplicate-file finding. The help pages are marked as work in progress, so consult current documentation for exact controls and supported options rather than treating these descriptions as a guarantee of a particular UI path.

How the license works—and why official pages disagree
The dedicated purchase page currently says a license is never required to use HiFile. It presents buying one as an optional way to support development and remove a small in-app purchase reminder. On the page reviewed, the license is listed at USD 15, is perpetual, includes future updates and covers up to three computers. These are live commercial terms and may change.
Other official material conflicts with that policy. Work-in-progress help documentation says Windows and macOS use becomes paid after 60 days, and the FAQ repeats older wording that HiFile is free on Linux but not on Windows and macOS. The dedicated purchase page is the clearest current sales statement, but the inconsistency means users should check the purchase page and in-app terms rather than rely on the older 60-day wording as settled policy.

Using cloud folders with HiFile
HiFile accesses cloud storage through folders or drives that the operating system or a desktop sync client makes available locally; the documented workflow is not a claim of built-in, direct cloud-service integration. The FAQ says iCloud on macOS and OneDrive on Windows can be used through the operating system. Google Drive and Dropbox require their desktop clients. Once a cloud folder is available locally, it can be navigated like other folders in HiFile, subject to how that provider’s client synchronizes files.
Privacy, network activity and project maturity
The developer’s project page says, “HiFile does not collect or send out any kind of personal data.” The privacy policy, however, describes limited technical and licensing communications, including installation or device identifiers, operating-system type and license key for licensing, updates and crash handling. The FAQ says HiFile’s own network communication is limited to version-update checks and license registration or verification; connected network or cloud drives may make their own connection checks. These are the developer’s descriptions, not an independent privacy or security audit.
The Command Center is described in the documentation as experimental and subject to change. The project page lists a preview panel, built-in terminal and network connectivity among future improvements, along with single-pane mode. Treat those items as planned rather than available features.
The developer also says Windows may show a SmartScreen warning because the application has limited reputation, and says the app is digitally signed on Windows and macOS and notarized on macOS. Those statements describe the developer’s claims; they do not independently establish that an application is safe.

Who may find HiFile useful
- People who prefer to keep two folder locations visible while transferring or organizing files.
- Users who want archive handling, basic file viewing, folder comparison or synchronization in the same file manager.
- People whose cloud files are already exposed as local folders or drives by an operating-system service or desktop client.
HiFile may be a less natural fit if you require a currently available single-pane mode, built-in network connections, or a mature, stable Command Center. The developer describes HiFile as lightweight and fast, but the official materials reviewed provide no named performance benchmark, memory measurement or independent test result.
