Angular error NG05703 is a server-side rendering (SSR) security check: Angular blocks a URL that appears relative but resolves to a different origin. Check the exact URL that triggered it and, if the error occurs during SSR startup, compare the renderer URL with the application’s trusted base origin. The error can indicate suspicious input, but a configuration mismatch can cause it too.
What NG05703 means
During SSR, Angular resolves relative URLs to absolute URLs while making HTTP requests and processing route state. It then checks whether the resolved origin is unexpected. If a URL behaves like a relative path but resolves to another origin, Angular throws NG05703 and blocks the request or navigation. Angular describes this check in its official NG05703 documentation as protection against server-side request forgery (SSRF) and security bypasses.
An origin is the scheme, host, and port that identify where a URL points. The key diagnostic question is whether the URL’s final origin is the one your application intends to trust.
Common causes
Backslashes or other parser-confusing characters
A URL beginning with slash and backslash combinations can look like a relative path to one parser but resolve to another host in a different URL parser. Angular identifies this mismatch as a possible hijack attempt. Line breaks or malformed schemes can also make a URL suspicious; the documentation gives htntp://evil.com/path as an example.

Navigation or URL state changes to another origin
Application state updates such as location.replaceState or location.pushState may be rejected when they would change the origin and the environment restricts URL changes to the current origin.
SSR renderer and base-origin mismatch
If the URL passed to the SSR renderer does not match the base origin configured for the application, the router may try to synchronize startup state by changing the origin. Angular gives APP_BASE_HREF as an example of a relevant base configuration.

How to diagnose and fix it
- Capture the exact URL. Find the request or navigation that triggered NG05703. Inspect it for backslashes, line breaks, malformed schemes, or other unexpected characters.
- Validate URL inputs before SSR processes them. Reject or sanitize suspicious user-supplied URL values rather than trusting them as relative paths.
- Check SSR startup configuration. If the error happens during startup, compare the URL passed to the renderer with the trusted application base origin, including relevant settings such as
APP_BASE_HREF. - Review request-derived host values. Do not rely on host headers such as
X-Forwarded-Hostto establish the application origin unless those values come from a trusted proxy and match the origin you intend to use. - Make intended cross-origin requests explicit. If a request is meant to go to another origin, ensure the configuration permits it and use a clear
http://orhttps://scheme.
How to tell which cause applies
Angular’s error page describes several possible causes; NG05703 alone does not identify which one affected a particular application. A suspicious URL points toward input validation, while an error during SSR startup makes renderer and base-origin alignment especially important. The triggering URL and the SSR/base URL configuration are needed to distinguish them.
