If all you need is “Do this later”—send an HTTP request at a scheduled time and retry it if delivery fails—you may not need to operate Redis and a worker fleet yourself. One alternative is to send the URL, payload and optional execution time to a hosted delayed-HTTP service such as Asynclay, which the service’s author describes as persisting, dispatching and tracking the request. That trades control over queue infrastructure for a narrower service boundary; it does not make delivery exactly once.
What problem does a delayed HTTP service solve?
An application can decide that an action should happen later, but deciding is not the same as reliably delivering it. Something must retain the request until its execution time, attempt the outbound call, retry eligible failures and record the outcome. Otherwise, a process restart or transient network failure can leave the deferred action unexecuted or untracked.
In the first-party article “I didn’t want Redis + workers just to run an HTTP request later,” published on DEV Community on September 30, 2026, the author, identified only as David, describes Asynclay as a hosted way to handle that responsibility. The proposed flow is application → Asynclay → HTTP endpoint: the application submits a target URL, payload and optional execution time, and the service takes on persistence and execution. This is the project author’s description, not an independently tested service review. Read the article on DEV Community.
How the hosted approach is described to work
The author says Asynclay’s dispatcher uses PostgreSQL FOR UPDATE SKIP LOCKED so multiple instances can claim jobs without normally claiming the same one concurrently. The design also uses leases, which are intended to let a job become eligible for recovery if a worker dies partway through execution. These are implementation claims from the project author; they do not establish independent reliability or performance results.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The service is described as recording job outcomes and retrying failures. That can remove the need for an application team to build and operate the queue-and-worker path for this specific task. It does not remove the need to define what counts as a successful request, make the receiving endpoint safe to retry, or decide how your application responds when a job ultimately fails.
Retries mean at-least-once delivery, not exactly once
A timeout does not tell a sender whether the receiver performed the requested action. The endpoint may have completed its side effect even though the response was lost; a retry can then deliver the same logical job again. The described service therefore offers an at-least-once model, not a guarantee that an endpoint’s effect happens exactly once.

According to the author, each delivery includes a stable job identifier that the receiving system can use for idempotency. In practice, the endpoint should recognize a repeated identifier and avoid applying the same effect twice, or use another idempotency strategy suited to the operation. Without that protection, retries can create duplicate effects such as repeated notifications or duplicate records.

| Consideration | Hosted delayed-HTTP service | Application-operated queue and workers |
|---|---|---|
| Best fit | A relatively simple scheduled or deferred HTTP callback, as described for Asynclay. | Complex workflows, CPU-heavy processing, custom worker code or a need for complete infrastructure control. |
| Execution and retries | The service is described as persisting jobs, executing requests, retrying failures and recording outcomes. | Your team operates the queue and workers and is responsible for their execution and retry behavior. |
| Infrastructure responsibility | Less queue-and-worker infrastructure to operate directly, in exchange for depending on a hosted service. | More direct control, with the corresponding operational responsibility. |
| Evidence available | Asynclay’s behavior here is the project author’s description; no independent service test is established. | The article names BullMQ and dedicated workers as alternatives, but gives no measured comparison. |
The author explicitly says the hosted model is not meant to replace tools such as BullMQ and dedicated workers for complex workflows, CPU-heavy work, custom processing or full infrastructure control. If the deferred task needs application-specific computation rather than simply calling an HTTP endpoint, an application-managed worker is likely the more natural architectural fit.
Security: a callback URL is an outbound-request boundary
Accepting arbitrary callback URLs can expose the service making the request to server-side request forgery (SSRF). The author flags requests aimed at private IP ranges, DNS changes and redirects as concerns. These risks matter because a hostname may resolve differently over time, and a redirect can change where a request goes.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
The article identifies these concerns but does not establish that they are fully mitigated. Before sending sensitive payloads or allowing untrusted users to choose destinations, determine what URL validation and network restrictions the service actually enforces. If you operate your own dispatcher, treat destination validation, DNS resolution, redirect handling and access to internal networks as explicit security requirements.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When this approach makes sense
- Use a hosted delayed-HTTP service when the task is essentially “call this endpoint later,” and you want another service to own persistence, dispatch, retries and outcome records.
- Prefer an application-operated queue and dedicated workers when jobs require custom code, substantial CPU work, multi-step orchestration or tighter control of the execution environment.
- For either design, make the endpoint safe for duplicate delivery and define how failed or exhausted jobs are surfaced to your application or operators.
The author says Asynclay has a free tier, but the article text provides no price, quantitative limits, throughput figures or independently verified reliability results. Those details should be checked directly before making a service decision.
