Yes. New Relic says an unauthorized actor used stolen credentials associated with one employee account to access the company’s internal staging environment in November 2023. In its final investigation update, published January 31, 2024, New Relic said the actor ran specific search queries and exfiltrated their results, but found no indication of access moving into customer accounts or production infrastructure.
What New Relic says happened
New Relic became aware in November 2023 that an unauthorized actor had accessed its internal staging environment. The company says the actor used stolen credentials connected to a single employee account. New Relic’s final investigation update was published on January 31, 2024; this is a 2023 incident, not a newly disclosed 2026 breach. New Relic’s final security bulletin is the primary source for the company’s account of the incident.
New Relic says the actor executed specific search queries and exfiltrated their results from October 24 through November 15, 2023. The company dates the last observed unauthorized activity to November 16, 2023, and says it found no indication of persistent access. It describes the customer impact as “a very small percentage” of customers; it does not give a percentage in the bulletin.
What the staging environment contained—and what it did not
The affected environment supported troubleshooting and held New Relic’s own observability data, including logs, events, traces, and diagnostic files. New Relic says customer-submitted telemetry and application data sent to its platform did not reside in that staging environment.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That distinction does not mean no customer information was involved: New Relic says a very small percentage of customers were impacted by the actor’s queries. The bulletin does not quantify that group or describe the query results in enough detail to conclude that all customer-related information was untouched.
| Environment | Role and data, according to New Relic | Investigation finding |
|---|---|---|
| Internal staging | Supported troubleshooting and held New Relic’s own observability data, including logs, events, traces, and diagnostic files. New Relic says customer-submitted telemetry and application data were not stored there. | The unauthorized actor accessed it and exfiltrated results from specific search queries. |
| Customer-facing production and New Relic production infrastructure | New Relic identifies these as separate from the affected staging environment. | New Relic says its investigation found no indication of lateral movement into customer production accounts or its own production infrastructure. |
These are findings New Relic reported from its investigation, conducted with forensic and cybersecurity experts; they should be understood as the company’s findings, not as an independent guarantee.

What New Relic customers need to do
New Relic’s final guidance is that customers who did not receive specific instructions about their systems do not need to take incident-specific action. The advisory states: “If you have not received specific instructions regarding your systems, there is no action you need to take.”
The same advisory also gives general account-security recommendations. These are not new incident-specific requirements for every customer:
