QuestLHSync can align SteamVR Lighthouse devices with a Steam Frame’s inside-out tracking without mounting a tracker on the headset. It is an unofficial software workflow, not native Lighthouse tracking: the Steam Frame cameras observe SteamVR 2.0 base-station flashes, and QuestLHSync’s PC-side driver uses those observations to align Lighthouse devices with the headset’s tracking space. The steps below reflect the project’s documentation, not independent hands-on testing.
What QuestLHSync does—and what it does not do
Valve describes Steam Frame as an inside-out tracked headset. QuestLHSync adds a software alignment layer between that tracking space and Lighthouse devices; it does not turn Steam Frame into a headset with native Lighthouse sensors. The QuestLHSync project README describes a headset component that sends camera observations over the local network and a PC-side SteamVR driver that solves and applies the alignment. The project says no tracker needs to be mounted on the headset.
This approach is relevant if you already have compatible Lighthouse equipment and want to use it alongside Steam Frame. It depends on the community project, Windows and SteamVR on a PC, a working local network, and supported base stations.
Check requirements before installing
- Base stations: SteamVR 2.0 base stations are required. Version 1.0 is explicitly unsupported by the project.
- At least one powered Lighthouse device: The README says a tracker or Index controller must be switched on for SteamVR to show the base stations.
- Windows PC with SteamVR: The PC-side driver is registered with SteamVR on Windows.
- Shared local network: The PC and headset must be on the same local network. The README lists Steam Link, Link, Air Link, Virtual Desktop, ALVR, and CreoleCast as streaming options; these are options named by the project, not a guarantee that every network configuration will work.
- One alignment utility at a time: Turn off SpaceCalibrator, OpenVR-SpaceSync, or any other tool that also moves Lighthouse devices. Competing correction tools can conflict.
The project does not require a particular tracker model in the README. HTC Vive Trackers are an example of Lighthouse-compatible hardware, not a blanket compatibility guarantee for every model or configuration; check the device’s compatibility before relying on it.

Install and align using the project’s documented workflow
- Prepare the hardware and network. Confirm the base stations are SteamVR 2.0, power on a Lighthouse tracker or Index controller, and connect the PC and Steam Frame to the same local network. Install and configure SteamVR on the Windows PC.
- Download the release and install the Steam Frame package. Download and extract the project release from the QuestLHSync repository. Copy its Steam Frame package to the headset and run the included installer from a terminal, following the README. The project says this installs a user service without root access or a developer password, adds a small SteamVR driver on the headset, and restarts headset SteamVR once.
- Register the PC-side driver. Close SteamVR on the PC, then use SteamVR’s
vrpathreg.exetool to register the project driver as instructed in the README. Do not substitute a guessed command or path: follow the release’s current instructions for the location where SteamVR and the project files are installed. - Start SteamVR and let the cameras observe the stations. Ensure other Lighthouse correction utilities are disabled, then start SteamVR and look around so the headset cameras can see the base stations. The project says it discovers the headset automatically and stores an alignment for later starts.
- Check the dashboard. Use the QuestLHSync dashboard page to reacquire alignment or pause corrections when needed. The README also documents recording a session for a bug report.
If local-network broadcast discovery fails, the project documents a host-address setting. Consult the README for the setting and its exact value format rather than guessing an address or configuration syntax.
Understand alignment limits and troubleshoot common failures
No camera frames appear
The README says camera frames are available only while the headset is tracking. Check that the headset is awake and being worn, then confirm that the installed build is recognized. If discovery is the issue rather than camera availability, check the shared network and the project’s documented host-address setting.

The base stations do not appear in SteamVR
Check that the stations are SteamVR 2.0 and that at least one Lighthouse tracker or Index controller is powered on. SteamVR 1.0 stations are unsupported by QuestLHSync according to its README.
Alignment behaves unexpectedly
Make sure only one utility is correcting Lighthouse device positions. The project explains that observing only two stations can leave the Lighthouse reference frame’s tilt ambiguous; after observing three stations, its software levels that frame using headset gravity. This describes the project’s method, not an independent accuracy guarantee.

Do not treat the acquisition estimate as a performance benchmark
The project says initial alignment locks in about half a minute. That is the project’s estimate, not an independently measured result. The reviewed sources provide no independent measurements of accuracy, drift, latency, or long-term reliability, so users should not infer those qualities from the acquisition estimate or from anecdotes.
Privacy and project status
QuestLHSync’s README says the headset service has no local-network authentication and answers requests from anyone on that network. It says the service transmits bright-spot positions rather than camera images, along with camera calibration and headset serial number, model, and firmware. The project advises using it on a trusted network. Its README also states that QuestLHSync is not affiliated with Meta or Valve.

Steam Frame installation is different from Quest installation
These instructions concern the Steam Frame package. The project’s Quest installation instructions require a rooted headset with Magisk; its README says Quest Pro has been tested, while Quest 3 and Quest 3S have not been tried. Those Quest-specific requirements and test notes should not be treated as Steam Frame requirements or compatibility findings.
