Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf a SteamVR tracker is drifting or floating, or your virtual position differs from your actual position, start by checking station visibility, stability, and reflections. If the tracking is stable but the floor or play-area orientation is wrong, rerun Room Setup. If movement merely feels delayed, check frame timing before blaming tracking hardware.
First determine whether this is tracking drift, a room-alignment error, or lag
These problems can look similar but call for different fixes. A tracker that jumps, floats, or changes position points toward tracking or room setup. A virtual floor that is consistently too high or low—or a play area facing the wrong direction—points toward calibration. Delayed or uneven movement may instead be performance lag.
- In SteamVR, check the status of the headset and tracked devices. Steam’s Index Lighthouse tracking guidance and Vive troubleshooting guide describe device-status clues; for Vive, a pulsing-green icon indicates a device is not tracking, while a gray headset display can indicate tracking loss.
- If the headset and trackers appear to track but motion feels laggy, open SteamVR’s Advanced Frame Timing. Steam says frame-timing spikes point toward CPU performance as a likely cause, rather than tracking.
Use the tracking status and timing behavior together: a tracking-status problem is a different clue from frame-time spikes.
Check that the base stations are operating and can see the play area
Confirm each base station has power, is aimed toward the play area, and has an unobstructed view of the devices it tracks. Check device status in SteamVR, then restart SteamVR. If a station or device shows a fault, use the support guidance for the specific hardware family rather than assuming every Lighthouse setup has identical indicators or procedures.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Improve station placement and stability
For Index Lighthouse setups, Steam recommends placing base stations above head height—at least 2 m (6.5 ft)—and angling them down 30–45 degrees. It recommends no more than 5 m (16 ft) between stations, positioned opposite one another in separate corners where practical and aimed toward the center of the play area. Steam notes other arrangements can work, so treat these as placement guidance, not universal requirements. See the Index Lighthouse tracking FAQ and Valve Index setup guide.
When comparing two possible locations, prefer the one with clear visibility of tracked devices and other stations, a stable surface, a useful height and angle toward the play-area center, and suitable separation. Avoid surfaces that vibrate, wobble, or move. If a station cannot be secured reliably, Steam’s setup FAQ says base stations use standard 1/4-inch UNC mounting and identifies tripods and light stands as alternatives to wall brackets. Check that a mount fits your actual hardware and can be installed securely; a mount by itself is not a drift fix.

Test for reflections and obstructions
Windows, mirrors, televisions, and monitor screens can interfere with tracking in some rooms. If the stations are powered and positioned sensibly but a device still drifts or floats, temporarily cover or remove reflective surfaces as a diagnostic test. Also check that furniture, people, or other objects are not blocking a station’s view of the tracked devices. Steam lists reflections and line-of-sight considerations in its Lighthouse tracking guidance.
Run Room Setup when the floor, position, or orientation is wrong
When the floor position is too high or low, your virtual position differs consistently from your actual position, or the play area faces the wrong direction, recalibrate the room. Do this especially after moving base stations: Steam notes that floor position is measured during Room Setup and may change when stations move.

- Open SteamVR and run Room Setup. Follow the prompts to define the room and floor for the current station layout.
- If using the quick calibration route described by Steam, open Settings > Developer > Room and Tracking and select the quick calibration option.
- Check the virtual floor and play-area orientation after calibration. If the geometry is still wrong, repeat setup carefully with the current room and station arrangement.
Steam Support says, “Performing a fresh room setup can help clear up any issues caused by changes in the environment or Base Station positioning.” See its floor-position guidance and base-station tracking page.
