Yes, in a specific scenario. SEC Consult reported flaws in an InfiRay IRAY-A8Z3 thermal camera running firmware V1.0.957 that could let an attacker alter camera readings or run commands on the device. If a factory relies on those readings to check material temperature or guide a control loop, false data could affect production. The reported consequences are possibilities, not evidence of an actual attack or factory disruption.
What the reported flaws could mean for a factory
SEC Consult described a test camera used to check whether metal pieces on a conveyor belt remained hot enough for the next production step. If an attacker manipulated the camera’s reported temperature, workers or automated equipment could make decisions based on false readings. SEC Consult researcher Steffen Robertz said that could result in inferior products or halted production. If a lower reading fed an automated control loop, the system might raise furnace temperature.
Those are plausible consequences of falsified measurements, not documented incidents. SecurityWeek reported that it found no such cameras exposed to the internet during its review; that does not rule out access through an internal network or establish that anyone exploited the flaws.
Which camera and firmware were identified?
The SEC Consult advisory identifies the tested product as the InfiRay IRAY-A8Z3 running firmware V1.0.957. It does not establish that every InfiRay product, another IRAY-A8Z3 firmware version, or other thermal cameras are affected. SecurityWeek also reported that researchers had not tested other devices from the vendor. The findings should therefore be read as specific to the tested model and firmware unless the vendor confirms a wider scope.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
How could an attacker get access?
The advisory describes two access paths with different prerequisites:
| Path | Reported issue | What access could enable |
|---|---|---|
| Web application | Hardcoded credentials in the application; a web endpoint could execute commands after login with one of those credentials. | Command execution on the camera through the web service. |
| Telnet on the local network | A Telnet service reportedly provided a root shell with an empty default password. | A person able to reach the service on the network could run commands on the camera. |
The advisory also lists a potential buffer overflow, CVE-2022-31209. SEC Consult said firmware analysis found an unchecked string copy, but explicitly noted it had not tested this issue in a live scenario. It should not be described as a demonstrated exploit.

What the four CVEs cover
- CVE-2022-31210: hardcoded web credentials.
- CVE-2022-31208: authenticated remote code execution through a web endpoint.
- CVE-2022-31209: potential buffer overflow based on firmware analysis, not live testing.
- CVE-2022-31211: default passwordless Telnet root shell.
NVD assigns CVE-2022-31211 a CVSS 3.1 base score of 9.8 (critical). This score applies to that CVE entry, not to all four findings as a combined or universal score. NVD lists the entry as published July 17, 2022, and last modified November 21, 2024.
SEC Consult’s firmware analysis also identified older components, including BusyBox 1.25.0, curl 7.54.0, dnsmasq 2.76, lighttpd 1.4.41, Linux kernel 3.10.104, and hostapd 2.5. The advisory’s component vulnerability counts are historical and depend on the database and date used; they should not be treated as current counts.

What is known about patches and mitigation?
SEC Consult says it found the issues in February 2021, contacted the vendor repeatedly, sent its advisory in April 2021, and published it on June 7, 2022, after receiving no meaningful response. The advisory lists no fixed version, says patch availability is unclear, and gives no workaround. That historical advisory does not establish whether a patch has become available since publication.
For an organization using this model, SEC Consult’s stated advice is to contact its vendor representative and request a security review and updates. The cited advisory does not provide a validated configuration change or other workaround, so do not assume an unverified mitigation removes the risk.
