The company said the incident affected a small percentage of customers who entered new payment details to make website purchases during that period. Potentially exposed information included names, addresses, card numbers, expiration dates, and CVV2 security codes.
Which Big Fish Games purchases were affected?
The reported exposure involved payment details entered through a browser on Big Fish Games’ website for a purchase during the stated window. Big Fish said affected customers were limited to people who supplied new payment information that way. The company reported no indication that purchases through iOS, Android, or Facebook were affected, or that details entered before or after the window were affected. That was the company’s assessment at the time, not an independent guarantee about every transaction or account.
Big Fish described malware on its online billing and payment pages intercepting and diverting information. The incident was not described as a compromise of every Big Fish game or platform. GeekWire reported the company’s statement that the incident affected “a small percentage” of its customers, without giving a total count: GeekWire’s account of the Big Fish Games incident.
What information may have been exposed?
SC Media, citing the California breach notice, reported that potentially affected information included:

- Payment card numbers

The California Department of Justice lists a Big Fish Games notice reported on February 13, 2015; the sample notice is identified as the “BFG Multistate Notice.” The California record confirms the filing, while the specific data categories above are reported by contemporaneous coverage. How many people were affected?
No overall customer count was disclosed in the reporting reviewed; SC Media described the total as undisclosed. A Massachusetts government report separately records 493 affected Massachusetts residents and identifies credit or debit numbers as breached. That figure applies only to Massachusetts residents and is not a total for all affected customers. The state figure appears in the Massachusetts Data Breach Notification Report 2015.

What did Big Fish do after discovering the breach?
Big Fish said it removed the malware, engaged a data-security forensics firm, reported the incident to law enforcement, notified credit-card reporting agencies and payment networks, and contacted impacted customers. It also offered affected customers one year of Experian ProtectMyID credit-monitoring and resolution service where available. That was an offer made at the time; the reporting does not establish that enrollment is still available. SC Media summarized the company’s response in its breach report.

The company’s description points to three details that matter: transaction date, purchase channel, and whether new payment information was entered in a browser. These details can help you assess whether a purchase matched the reported scope, but they cannot establish whether a particular person’s information was intercepted.
